United (A) - League Cup SF Post-Match Thread

No one's saying we stopped trying to win. We had already won. I'm not arguing that we played well in the 2H and should have scored with another half coming up in a few weeks, but the conservative move with our back line, ball retention ability and knowledge that they had to chase was to pass it around, keep possession and run the watch off. And the next match is at home.
I honestly believe JUST ONE MORE GOAL would have put this tie to bed.

I understand what you’re saying, and it felt like Pep was testing his Real Madrid (A) tactics for most of the game, but to not kill off the tie at their place, with them on the ropes and very vulnerable is disappointing.

That “2nd half” in a few weeks shouldn’t even be a thought, but the first goal in the game MAY decide the tie! Slightly hyperbolic, but the Etihad is brilliant at getting nervous, esp in big games!

The tie should be over. It definitely isn’t, and to not be entirely disappointed by that would mean you hadn’t seen the game.

Fuck disrespecting the opposition, we should've battered them tonight, we played well within ourselves that second half and the tie is still on. We do it a lot, just ease off when we could go for the jugular. Never seen such a shite utd side as well, great at 3-1 but it should've been a lot more.

ran on to one sitter, other than that I saw him hold on too long a number of times which came to nothing, in between he was no better or worse than the rest.

Sitter? He had to round the keeper as he was out quick and did so brilliantly.

Mahrez was third best tonight, behind Fernandinho and Bernardo.

Great result but Bravo man he is a cracking passer of the ball pity when in net a shot on target is usually a goal.

Ole is morphing into Jose, moyes, Hughes & postman pat. All utds managers seem to age very quickly. Eeerrr eeerrr eerrrr eeerrrr
He's a jibbering idiot at the moment and I almost feel sorry for him b
It's a shocking combination that.

They're like an early Joy Division demo.
I agree he's dour but to be fair to Smith, he was very complimentary towards City and as an ex-Arsenal man, he was, definitely getting a few digs in.

Agreed,a 2 goal lead is not comfortable, they have scored more than that at ours this season lready, the annoying thing was you could see their goal coming a mile off but he didn't change it
Lol.
Fantastic first half and Bernado's goal must be our best goal since Bellamy's 25 yarder?

It's a great result, I'm delighted with it and would definitely have taken it before the game, but I don't think there's anything wrong with being a bit disappointed with our second half performance. United got their goal when we stopped attacking, a fourth goal would have killed the game and the tiehopefully we get an early goal in the second leg and then finish the job!
I said the exact same when it went in. Its identical.

Admittedly not 100% sure about the away goals rule in the SF etc. Understand the frustration surrounding the 2nd half, but surely to goodness the tie is done now unless (which we won't) completely capitulate at the Etihad. I am 57 and supported City all my life, vand can be the most negative, but I am sat here thinking well done boys job done Wembley here we come??
