United (A) Post Match Thread

I think there is an element of blue tints in that summary,it wasnt just the striker that didnt score, the best opportunities fell to his support acts.....do we replace them all? or do we choose a better starting 11,a better plan A?

I'm far from convinced Pep got his tactics right, that game was for the taking and we failed to exploit them.
Fair enough but you need to specify the alternative. This truncated season, going hell for leather is suicidal.
Blue tints? Moi? Nooo!

I agree, and if we'd gone at them gung ho, missed a sackful of chances, and then conceded on the break and lost, this thread would likely have an extra 50 pages by now.
But it didnt have to be one extreme or the other......there could easily have been a shade of grey to the performance.

That would have been the case had he got the personnel right,IMO.

Tbf you have no idea how the game would have panned out had we gone with Foden or Bernardo.
We could quite easily have been beaten as well as won the game.
I think it’s clear why he starts Sterling against utd, it’s as much for his work stopping their full backs as it is creating for us. He wasn’t great again but wasn’t half as bad as has been made out on here.
Mahrez had earnt his place but I’d have had no problem with him being dropped for this one.
I'd love to see Torres and one of Foden or Bernardo getting a decent run going forward though. Sterling’s game hasn’t been good enough overall this season.

True,im just basing my thinking on what they give us in terms of effort and ability as opposed to the two who started.I just dont think when the going gets tough,Sterling and Mahrez can be relied upon.

Absolutely agree about the players you mention getting a consistent run of games now,he's been more than fair with his opportunities for his current favourites and it isnt working out.......its time others were given the same opportunity.

Pep is now playing to our strengths which is defending well. He knows we dont have the same creativity or goals in us to swipe teams away. In this respect he has finally change his tactics. Had have gone all out against Utd we would again have been caught on the counter and lost. Until we can sort out the goal drought we will have to play more cautious. I accept its not what we want to see but I dont see we have any other choice atm. Sterling is hopeless he couldnt score in a bothel and loses the ball aswell and he is suppost to be one of our important strikers. Sell him and buy a consistent goalscorer and another creative midfielder.

Yep they did! The majority on twitter were slating city and why web didn’t go for it, fans saying the game was a bore fest or shit but then say fair enough it’s an ok point! No it was we should gone for it! We did that last few times and we got done! At half time I was happy with how the game was going I just thought second half while staying solid we would take one of our chances.
Totally agree. While we are not converting why go for it and get done on the counter.

Absolutely spot on , I think now everyone had 24 hours calm down and understand what our game plan was it wasn’t such a bad result. If we had got picked off on the counter and lost we we would all be screaming Pep has learned sod all
Yes I think there is a lot of truth in what you say. This is a different set up to what we have been used to. We have to accept we are not a free scoring outfit atm but that can change so lets play to our strengths and credit to Pep for changing out tactics to suite the opposition we face.

I'm not sure if the Liverpool, spurs and Chelsea results this weekend make me feel better or worse about our awful performance.

You can't win sometimes, all last season we went for it, and many were crying out to be more pragmatic, had we turned a few of those defeats into draws who knows what would have happened, now he's doing what people wanted, and it's still wrong.

The only reason we are where we are in the league currently, is that we had a quite difficult start to the season, with no pre-season, and a shit load of injuries. We've lost 1 in 16 games in all competitions, away at the current league leaders - a game we should have won, where we had more than 5x the number of goal attempts than they did, caught out on the break, and due to our own errors at the back.

As long as I can recall a draw v the rags at old toilet is never a bad result.
Some of us have been a bit spoiled by what’s happened in the last decade.
A new striker is needed but with Kun returning I expect us to climb the table in the next month.
We’re still only 3 off top if we win our game in hand despite apparently being awful according to some...

Every decent team loses form for a while. Yesterday was a one-off - we normally rip the rags a new one (even when we lose). So, to all the moaners, without being even close to our best, win our game in hand and we're back in the mix. Spurs, supposedly having their best season for 60 years, and us, nowhere near our best, schooled Liverpool a few weeks ago and are within touching distance of the leaders. We will hit form and the second half of the season we always come on stronger. Liverpool V Spurs coming up - points getting dropped. Weird season. Anyone's.

We have been awful ,so has everyone else

If thr dippers didn't have all the injuries they have they wouldn't be able to see us in the rear view mirror.
using the same argument If we had Agüero we would have been much better. Even with VVD dippers looked shaky at the back early in the season. Also Jota has been covering drop in form for mane and Salah (somewhat).
