United (A) | Post Match Thread

The prem want a new team winning the title simple as that , they would prefer it to be scum or dippers but Arse are top so they will go with that for now , until they can manipulate scum and dippers into a position where they might be able to get to challenge for the title . what we saw today will be the norm for the next month or so as the Prem influence games to get scum and dippers challenging . On the last game of the season the Prem, media ,sky and BT want a 3 horse race where the title is decided on the last game, gets the best viewing figures that way, and proves the prem is the best league in the world not the most bent and corrupt though .

Unpopular opinion but Ake and Akanji are the sort of players we’d have bought when we had just come into wealth and were fighting for Top 4. They’re the sort of players I’d expect Newcastle to buy now.

Both have played well at points for us of course, as did e.g. Craig Bellamy when we bought him (but I don’t think we’d have him now). It’s an odd transfer strategy. I’d lump Phillips and Gomez in that category too, and possibly Grealish.

Ultimately I think there can be too much disregard for strength “on paper” - yes it’s not everything, but a centre back pairing of Dias, Laporte and/or Stones (putting aside injuries) should always be our preferred one.

So has Foden, Dias was off the boil as well before injury but I don’t just want to sell players who are more often than not very good because they have dips in form
Yeah, I get that, but with the constant chatter of new challenges and his absolute desire to not play the ball forward....and to think against Crystal Palace he turned the game by attacking attacking attacking..what has happened?!

Every decision as expected with Atwell and Oliver went against us. That offside goal would not be given to us and was a disgraceful decision.
They were also allowed to foul at will without the threat of a card (usual late ones given to pad the stats).

BUT

Again not great by us.
Ederson for me at fault for the 1st goal with awful positioning and could have saved the second but defence was all over the place.

its our attacking thats a huge concern, the team is painfully slow and despite having one of the best strikers we cannot get him into games. Whats the now, 6 goals in 8 away games with 3 of those at Leeds.

this team has come to the end of its cycle, defence has injury prone 3 main CB’s, one excellent but ageing RB and other full backs are not good enough and cannot defend. What happened to our rock solid defence from a few seasons back.

Midfield and wingers are a mess. We have zero pace which means as we give the ball cheaply away about 10 times per game we just cannot catch the team attacking us, we have no wingers with pace and directness to take a defender on.

we have to stop buying at Poundland as the quality ofourbuys like Gomez, Phillips, Akanji are a million miles off the level required. Our squad looks the weakest its been for some time.

Our very slow tippy tappy sideways game does not work anymore. We start every game slowly ( think we have 5 goals in the 1st 15 mins all season). Teams have worked us out, just attack us as we are defencivly weak or wait for us to make an error.

The game Seems to be about pace and energy now, and we have neither in the squad.

Sad to say but like at Southampton, the Rags wanted it more today. Forget the title, the way we are playing a top 4 will be a challenge this season as its no longer a blip:
Rags 1-2
Southampton 0-2
Chelsea 4-0
Chelsea 1-0 ( where we were awful 1st half)
Everton 1-1
Leeds 3-1
Liverpool 3-2 ( thank god they had Nunez missing everything)
Brentford 1-2
Excellent post.

It is what it is, we aren't as good as we used to be, they are better. In summary we are still the better team but it is much closer, especially when they set-up reactively like today. The Bruno goal was a ridiculous decision though, there is no way you can argue Rashford didn't play a huge part in the goal from a offside position. Man football can be brutal at times, but there Will be better days, we are luckier than most

That last one surely?

Rashford running with the ball (even doing a feint at one point) clearly affects Ederson's ability to play the ball??
That’s the key point. Everyone is focussing on the defenders, yet Ederson has made his line based on Rashford’s angle.

I feel like if the PL made a rule that scum wins were worth 6 points the media would justify it. It's fucking amazing that City have ever won anything with as bent as football is for the "important teams."
