In the presser Pep said to control united's threat on the fast counter
you'd have to sit back - but that's just not the way he wants to do it.

It's a weird combination playing a high line without any fuckin effect up front and by that inviting the opponent to his only threat. That's asking for trouble.

Well, sounds a bit naive when you know your team isn't in the best moment and you just have to survive 15 mins to steal 3 points at OT, being 1-0 up.

Doesn't give me the best feeling looking ahead to CL crunch time. It's Pep, too stubborn. It will sadly happen again.
We won't get to crunch time in the champs league, so there is that I suppose

Walton is a clueless twat, today isn't the first time he's embarrassed himself.
Today he was laughed at live on air by a panel of ex pros.
A couple of years back he showed he didn't know the laws of the game when chatting shit about Bernardos goal against Villa, the one scored after Rodri tackled Mings.
He incorrectly said the LOTG said it shouldn't have stood when in fact the LOTG at the time said it should.
How this clown is still in a job as an "expert" beggars belief.
Yes he looked a right tit….tried getting out of it referring to giving an advantage to the attacking team. Utter bellend

The more he tried to justify himself, the bigger the tit he looked.
Tried to say the laws are geared to benefit the attacking team to back up his argument.
I'm not Suttons biggest fan but he hit back pointing out lines drawn for VAR offsides used to rule out goals to shut him up
Walton is stealing a living and anyone who listens to him needs to give their head a wobble.

Didn’t think we were only referring to Utd games but I can think of a few where they were difference makers in them games. VK header 2012, Yaya semi final, Sane comes on 0-0 at swamp scores and assists we win 2-0. Not that rose tinted mate.
I'm not saying they weren't good players, I'm saying the idea that we parachute them into this side (who have a fair few good derby memories themselves) and we'd win all our big games is pure nostalgia. They all lost a fair few themselves, including some pretty shocking comebacks and limp performances.

In control?

Didn't Rashford miss a 1 on 1 and also have a shot cleared off the line?

We seem to struggle to understand that passing a ball around boring the life out of every person watching the game won't be enough to get us a win.
First half they had a few goid chances we had 0. I thought (second goal aside) we defended quite well today. Ake looks committed and that helped. Second half we were comfortable without theeatening much. That goal changed everything as they had ran out of ideas and belief...MOTD will have utd all over us of course.

Putting Southampton to one side, we've dropped 5 points against Everton and United because we can't keep clean sheets not because we can't score. The main problem with the season is that we need to win by 3+ goals to see the game out - the United home game was more telling than that. That isn't sustainable, and that why Pep is desperate for more control. It's also a constant recurring issue that if we concede one we are *very* vulnerable. Again, that is why Pep wants control. I don't have the answer to those problems, and of course I'd like to score more goals, but we should be seeing games out better.

I agree the goal changed the game but why don't we take games away from the opposition anymore. At 1-0 the crowd was dead but just like Everton we don't capitalise and are happy to try and see it out.

Between 1-0 and 1-1 about 20 minutes went by. Why didn't we do anything at all to try and kill the game in that time. I don't even think we had a shot

Stones, Dias and a fully fit La Porte solve a lot of the problems at the back and the build up.

Just absolutely fucking gutted. Saw it coming and its still fucked me. There is no title run, we need to improve massively to end up second tbh. We are where we are, foden, kev, cancelo all a shadow of their former selves at the moment. Missing Dias hugely. We refuse to give haaland the ball over the top or something to actually attack. It's just not happening.

Today is not a blip - something desperately needs to change, soon.

We start games pass pass pass round the back four into midfield then back to the back four as if we are already a goal up and trying to see the game out,we go a goal up and end up chasing the game pushing everyone forward for some reason I just don’t get it ..

I think and hope so. Really missed Stones today. And yeah, when you put it like that we played with our 3 first choice CBs at Old Trafford and were still unlucky to lose.
The counter to that is why is Pep trying to see a game out by keeping a clean sheet with a team where our 3 first choice CBs aren't playing.

Allowing the 'offside' goal to stand today has set a precedent. A tactical game changer; in that an offside player can continue to follow the through ball, shepherd it without touching it, a team mate then follows up to stroke the ball into the net or even pass to another team mate to maintain possession, supposedly legitimately.
The offside rule has now had a big red bus driven through and over it.

It’s changed nothing, If a different team tries it in a game tomorrow, it won’t stand. I guarantee it Fulham try that tomorrow against Newcastle for example, it will be ruled out

It stood today because they wanted it to stand, absolutely nothing to do with the rule. As soon as that ball hit the net, they found a way to let it stand.

I truly believe that’s the case because they were putting flags up for us as quick as their arm could lift it, even when it was borderline and arguably onside in the case of Foden at one point. That to me shows there was different rules for different teams.

I’m generally pretty balanced because I know every teams fans complain about officials, but when it’s as blatant as today then it’s just disgraceful. If Man Utd fans weren’t such shithouses then they would admit they’ve been helped out there. There’s really no explanation for that.
