United away - pre-match thread

If united had managed to get Pep, I wonder what his opinion would be? I'm guessing he'd be talking about him being the best manager in the world, playing the most exciting football. I really wish we had intelligent, thoughtful punditry in this country rather than the biased bilge we are subjected to.

I don't know which fans' intelligence is insulted more by some of this shite we are reading.

I mean, we know it's fucking bollocks, so presumably it's aimed at Utd fans, which suggests their own people think they are a bunch of fucking morons. As if anyone (other than the absolute stupidest of people) really believes this shite.

That's what annoys me about it, the fact that it's so inane. Ibrahimovic parcelling up in front of the camera, which just happened to be there. Some fucking Swedish bloke, who didn't even want to sign for Utd in the first place, trying to be the life & soul of derby day, before he retires.

Oh what a great idea, that will get everybody going...just like when FC Fishfingerens had their epic struggles with Gudshitsvagen back in the day...

What a bunch of utter tits they are.

All the crap about the Rags this week , the new invincibles , will mean a Pep inspired victory at the swamp will be one of the sweetest ever , we have ruled Manchester for 4 or 5 years now , and the media don't like it , they have tried everything and sank lower than the low to besmirch our club . We are still top dogs , and even if these rag f*ckers fluke/cheat a victory on Saturday , it will not change f*ck all , we will be above these red tw*ts in May , and the gouger will be whoring himself around europe looking for his next project/pay cheque.

I love the way we take it in turns to 'press' with the defence stood back like statues, then immediately whack it long when we get it, as nobody is looking for a pass. Hate the way we've knelt down to so many european teams, particularly since being in the Champs Lg.

Good stuff from Bayern but ffs...

Tbh, impressive as it is, I actually think Pep would be telling them off for that. It's possession for the sake of it rather than incisive, which he doesn't like.
Pep fucking loved that game. They were doing exactly as he wanted.

For me that has a lot to do with the way you expect United to play.

Until now I know matches against Mourinho from Bayern or Barcelona in this way - Inter-Bayern was park the bus, Real- Jupp's Bayern was an open play, Chelsea-Bayern was park the bus, Real-Barcelona park the bus.

What does he do tomorrow?

I am not so sure he will park the bus as he lacks the fast strike force and City is not so stable in their ball possession system right now as Bayern and Barcelona were. But I think Mou will plan on getting some freekicks as with Fellaini (if available), Ibra and Smalling that is a weapon

Working against a parked bus with a false nine or something similar is very difficult. That is matches in which I would prefer at Bayern to play with Lewy and Müller in the box because you have two strikerlike players who really know each other and are home in the box and it often is something they trigger that then makes you score. That are often matches in which not excellence in football but smartness let's you win.

How do you think Mourinho plans his tactics? I haven't seen a match of them now - only know that they had problems scoring and that the combined lack of mobility of a combined Rooney and Ibra might be a problem...

Rashford starting gives Pep a quandry. If he doesn't the plan is simple enough, defend high up the pitch and avoid situations where crosses can come in eg silly free kicks.

If he starts they obviously can get in behind us so we will be tempted to drop off thus giving them chances to put in crosses from better areas.

So even if Rashford starts I think we need to be brave enough to play with a high line. That's why our midfield and forward press is so important so they don't have time to pick passes through our lines to Radhford. The only benefit of Aguero not playing might be in this respect if we can swarm them in midfield.

The best match of this week then - maybe even of that first year - was the match we played against Leverkusen 3 days later. We did not win it - only drew. But it was about the best Pep football I have seen of Bayern in that season. Nobody knows why Bayern only scored once in that match... - that goal was jinxed.

If you can get a copy of that match... it is really watchable.

Are the neutrals really of the opinion that United are playing the better/more attractive football? I can't fathom how anyone could come to conclusion without having massive bias.

They are also making out them scraping a last minute winner at Hull is the same as us against Sunderland. If I remember it right we'd been dominating them, should have had the game wrapped up with the chances we were making and they got an equalizer from nowhere which would have been a real kick in the teeth if it had finished that way but we got a well deserved winner inside of the 90 minutes and could have had another if Kelechi squared it to Delph who had an open net.

I agree with this 100%.

If the Shite play with the same team they've started the season with, then us playing as high up the pitch as possible will completely negate them. Their only threat in behind is Martial, so we better hope Sagna is fit as he's far more equipped to deal with Martial's pace than Zabba.

We could get away with Kolarov at left back against Mata, and Kolarov playing full back will stop their threat from the diagonal ball isolating Clichy at the back post.

Mourinho isn't stupid though. I do expect them to park the bus and play on the break, but I can't see how he'll play Mata and Ibrahimovic, there just isn't enough pace there to play on the break.

So for me, Martial on the left is the only guarantee. The other front positions are anyone's guess. The sensible option for him would be to play Rashford through the middle and Lingard wide. Those 3 with Rooney behind would be really dangerous on the counter, especially if we start with Kolarov at full back.

So for me, if Mourinho starts with his regular team, we will murder them, 3 or 4-1.

If he drops one of Ibrahimovic or Mata and plays with pace on the break, we could be in trouble. Especially if Zabba and / or Kolarov are playing full-back.

I think about gary neville and the way he has approached punditry and a few things strike me. Regardless of whether you agree with what he says or not, it is difficult to accuse him of bias which considering his history is remarkable and the respect he seems to have from the majority of fans and journalists is a reflection of that IMO. So why don't tossers like schmeichel who only seem to be interested in pandering to one set of fans look at that and think "I'll have a bit of that, respect which will lead to work and I will be able to say things I believe rather than just talk bollocks". But the thing that strikes me most is that it stands out so much when a pundit isn't hugely biased and attempts to be reasoned. Fuck me, how can that not be the norm?

Hope we perform well on Saturday but the height issue Vs them and other teams with big players could cost us goals this season, no one seems to be mentioning it.
I know Barca were a small team but the Prem is far more physical and I feel this is an area that has been inadvertently overlooked. We need some height in the team, I hope it doesn't cost us.

If our back 4 is Sagna, Kompany, Stones and Kolarov, I think we'll be absolutely fine. They are all superb in the air. If any of them get isolated one on one in the air during open play, you'd expect them to compete with anyone. We play a zonal marking system at set pieces so again, if we execute it properly, having a lot of small players shouldn't be too much of a hinderance.

Pep is apparently obsessive about preparing for defending set pieces and has one of the best records in Europe for not conceding set piece goals, so I think we're going to be ok.

True but I don't think VK will start on Saturday

Yeh unfortunately I agree, it's probably come a week or two early for him. The thing is, it's as a two sided coin for me. If Ibrahimovic starts, we'll just push up to the half way line and he won't get any chances to head in our box. If Rashford starts and we drop deep because we're frightened of his pace, any of our centre backs are more than equipped to deal with him in the air.

If he starts them both we could be in trouble, but this is Mourinho, there's more chance of him being gracious in defeat than starting two up front ;-)
