United (H) Post Match Thread

Listen Blues...try getting some perspective on this. We lost the derby and could have wrapped up the league title at the same time but anything can happen in a derby and those missed chances along with a blatant penalty not given, we should have won the game even with the chances in the second half - every dog has its day

The fact is we are now both uniteds and liverpools cup final games - fact. The way they rejoiced yesterday was reminiscent of what we had to celebrate when we were never challenging for trophies, celebrating a moral victory in a derby. United and liverpool will obviously deny that statement because they have to save face, but deep down especially united...they are jealous of the football we have produced and regardless of what happened yesterday they are light years behind us now both on the pitch and off it.

They have had the bragging rights for the day, so what. We are going on to secure the league title. I have been supporting my club since childhood growing up in Wythenshawe - does losing yesterday take any of the gloss of our season, not at all, just local pride for one day is the price paid.

I haven't seen a replay of the game (apart from the pen & Fernandinho yellow card) & was too involved in the atmosphere 1st half, to make rational judgement, but 2nd half it seemed to me that if City had one more player of Fernadinho's type, it would have pretty much ended Utd's ability to set up attacks.

Gundogan isn't that player & isn't as good as either Silva going forward, so I really think we need to consider his position next season.

Great goal though & still we should have won by about 4 clear goals irrespective.

Our formation relies on everyone running, pressing and playing close together in midfield-otherwise we can get overrun very quickly through the middle. The work rate and energy dropped noticeably soon after the restart and it was no surprise when they were able to get back into it. Gundogan disappeared and David was knackered.

Love Vincent but his passing out defence is now woeful. Puts us under so much pressure. Time for John Stones to find that early season form again?

How about we worry about actual defending for once, having just let in 6 easily defendable goals & the 3 goals I've just watched on the net, 2 sailing over the same player's head & the other in the space where he would have been, in his own position, if he hadn't been on the wing failling to get anywhere near Sanchez ?

Clue: it isn't Kompany.

Sad to see Raz panic in front of the keeper, repeatedly.
Too much pressure being English and all that title winning rag hurting derby talk didn't help.

A keeper always is in trouble if you hit the corner low. Raz didn't even hit the goal ffs.

Let him score and Pep was a hero, earliest title won, in a derby, players were flying, dippers were flapping.

Now we have the opposite scenario: lost a half 3-0 AGAIN, players bottled the historical chance,
and the premature schadenfreude "shite" chants were flying back in our faces. No support from the stands when they needed it. Shame.
We're fucked basically.

(But about all that I will never forget the influence of the coach attack pre Anfield and the corrupt derby ref "what was his name".)

And having just watched the goals, Otamendi went temporarily blind for ten minutes.

Can anyone tell me why Gundogan refuses to tackle and yet is playing Cm. Ability not in doubt but he shit out of every challenge. Did the same against lpool with Milner for Oxs goal. They stepped it up tempo wise yesterday and got more physical and he went missing. Again.
Does my head in. Lovely player but wimps out of every challenge-he's obviously scared of getting hurt again.

A great post. Well in, blue.

I must be a football genius because when i heard the line up i knew we'd struggle. Then at half time i said i hope he changes it . It was as clear as day. Perhaps not to the likes of you but to a level headed honest fan it is.

He didn’t even have to change it from the bench, he had the personel on the field to solve it. Get Fernandinho to drop in and protect the centre backs, slow the the game down, keep hold of the ball. Non of that happened, that Smalling goal was shameful, not a single player within 5 yards of him.

we bottled it, with a couple of players who have peaked this season and are struggling to the end. But hey, it's a timely reminder that we've achieved this position because of our brilliance without even having a LB most of the season, and the majority of this team is young and inexperienced and needs moments like that so they feel dejected and learn never to feel that way again and develop that ruthless edge, if we'd won yesterday and had the perfect end to the season, everyone would snap at our heels next season and we would be a bit too comfortable. Ferguson used it really well back in the day to motivate his players and give his side an edge, by making them determined to never feel that way again, which is why they jammied their way to their final title. Pep needs to do the same with this, make the players feel angry and disappointed with themselves for letting it go and make them mentally stronger and determined to never feel that way again. We need to develop a ruthless edge and we have to use this, otherwise Dippers and Rags will have one over on us from now on and will continually trip up.
