United (H) Post Match Thread

isn't that the point though. its only really been the last two games we've been crap at the back. pretty much all season we've been great at the back. considering the way we play swell, mistakes are going to happen. you put any defence under pressure they will make mistakes. liverpool, united, chelsea, spurs defenses have all made mistakes when under pressure. if we attack and dominate teams it doesnt matter as much.

obviously we need to improve on our last 2 performances at the back and tbh id be tempted to brign back laporte and stones and give them an actual run in the team

The warning signs have been there on occasion. Stoke at home the main one I remember. We absolutely murdered them the first half, went in 3-0 up but not long into the second half from nowhere it was 3-2.

We need to try and get this title wrapped up asap and then if Stones and Laporte are supposedly our future centre back pairing start playing them.

i get what you are saying mate, but i think with the way we play we are going to make mistakes and concede goals at times. i agree they are out future and for me haven't been given enough game time recently. otamendi and Kompany have been really poor recently.

It is a high risk strategy the way we play and on the whole the results have been fantastic using it.

I am still feeling the pain after yesterday and last Wednesday it has been hard to stomach, so I am probably over reacting a bit.

Yesterday was crying out for a Ya Ya type player in his prime, big and powerful who could just get the ball and keep it and not be bullied or knocked off it, steady the ship. I presume close season we will try to fetch someone like this in.

Completely disagree mate. If Kun, KDB & Walker had started that game we would now be Champions and on a major high - which is what we needed after Liverpool.
We are now on a serious low and two of the toughest games of the season coming up next.
Pep fucked up on Wednesday and again yesterday. Hey, he's human but on occasions he tries to be just a bit to clever for his own good and it has cost us dearly.
Agree , a once in a lifetime chance gambled away.

i agree it hurts. the liverpool - i was just so angry after the game, but this was one hurts more then anything. Its put a bit of a dampener on a fantastic season overall.

I think peop having a go at each other on this thread isn’t required at all. I’m a city fan....city form a big part of my life....today do I feel dejected, do I feel let down by the result, do I feel that peps decision to play a different side was wrong....yes 100%. I feel very low today but then I think about us scraping a draw at Chesterfield and then to think where we are now to feel sad about not winning the premier league again...quite a feeling really

Come in ladies m gents we’re about to be champions again just not this weekend

It’s took a while but here it is. When we fuck up or fail it’s ok because we was once shit...

I’ve got a bit of perspective today. Things like this happen. We beat Utd 2013. Utd lost on the Munich anniversary when Sven was manager. Liverpool beat Utd 4-1 and they still won the title. I’d just rather we got this title won sooner rather than later.

yesterday showed a total disconnect between the club, manager and the local fans who work with rag fans.
We are not winning the chumps league any time soon we missed a once in a life time opportunity to shut up the rags.

This is the type of player we've needed since the start of last season. A strong powerful player with the ability to control the game and dominate the midfield when it gets scrappy or to see a game out. We've have a wealth of talented attacking players, but only Fernandinho who is there to mix it up when it gets a bit tough.

I’ve just been reading through many threads in here, and the Player Performance forum, and it is interesting that the “amplifying” response posts (the ones repeatedly agreeing and building upon very negative comments or strong criticism of Pep/players/club) generally are coming from posters I’ve never seen before, with very low posts counts and very little recent activity. And those posts are then being responded to by still more (or the same) mystery contributors with agreement and further vitriol.

It’s almost twitter-esque in here at the moment, and is not likely to get any better for the next few days, so it may be time for many of us that are just disappointed with recent results (rather than harbouring a “this team is and always will be shit to me now and Pep should be taken to the backroom of Mary D’s and shot” mindset) just need to give it a miss until Tuesday. Maybe even after that, depending on the outcome of that match.

Nobody was doubting PEP at half time We had 2-3 chances to kill the game .Although Sterling has been great this season he isnt clinical and has missed plenty of chances some of them absolute sitters he scores instinctively when he has to think, ...well thats just it, he overthinks it We could have secured it in the first 45mins sure, but we did not LOSE it then. The game was lost when we went absent allowing them to get a foothold in the game instead of seeing out 10-15 of keeping the ball as we so often do. our bottle went al a Anfield and we tossed the game off. No one person to blame unless like me you wonder after arguably our best performance at Goodison PEP decided to change it. at Anfield and again yesterday When he lost credibility he went against his own mantra to take one game at a time, and it cost us heavily

Just a question about Sterling. Do you think it's a mental thing with him ? I'm more inclined to think it's a lack of basic technique. For an international player to not even hit the target on two one-on-ones with De Gea seems to me to be someone who lacks proper technique in striking a ball correctly. He was leaning back on both when he struck those efforts which indicates his body position in relation to the ball was wrong. We've seen him previously fluff efforts, miskick and miss apparently simple tap ins although sometimes his scuffed efforts have gone in. I thought he played well first half but his poor finishing was a prime reason United went in at HT believing they were still in the game at 0-2.

His performances in the second half of last season gave everyone hope he had one last season to do a job for us, unfortunate that hasn't proved to be the case. His experience and ability to hold and keep the ball would have been invaluable yesterday.

I’m fucking gutted still ..what a shit week..been a great season but can’t help feeling this team are a bit soft when it’s crunch time..which is probably wrong we’ve won away at Stamford bridge old Trafford Napoli..one of the main qualities I thought this season was our mental toughness but this week is telling me otherwise..I think are a great attacking team but when good teams aren’t shit scared of us and decide to have a go we’ve got a shit defence..maybe with peps philosophy we might have to accept we will win tropys but it’s a high risky formula we will win some and a lose some and my never win champs league..I dunno just gutted :( been a great season at the end of the day but this weeks been wank at a crucial time of the season too..beat the scousers on Tuesday and go through and it’s all forgotten,But can’t see us going through.

I said, not long ago, that I’ve never felt more disconnect from the club and that really they don’t understand or care to understand the core local fanbase.

We had a historic chance to win the league against our local rivals but the club prioritised the chance to earn an extra £7m prize money (and whatever they might earn from ticket sales) that you get by reaching the semi-finals of the CL instead.

I dont think it's once in a lifetime - maybe once in a generation - certainly historic. But the initial premise is correct.they got it totally wrong. You play your strongest team against Utd - always.
That said, the confidence hit of the defeat means the we have absolutely no chance of winning on Tuesday as our defending will be too fragile as a result. Were bound to concede too many, even if we win.

Always happens when we get beat majority of em ain’t city supporters.

People going on about a once in a lifetime , once in a lifetime is the 93.20, that will never happen again, but I feel we could win the league against Utd in future, the amount of times we've played Utd in April , so that's possible
