United (H) Post Match Thread

The result still hurts but not the performance, even in the 2nd half we had enough chances to win comfortably. Fuck all went in our favour, the bounce of the ball, ref decisions etc.
9 times out of 10 we win comfortably, just the Gods of football.

Just watched the extended highlights - forgot that Sterling not only missed three chances in the first half he also blocked otta's chance in the second half that was going in. Grrrr
I couldn't believe when Tyler said Sterlings was an effort. Like you said, Otamendi's shot was on it's way in & hit Sterling...

Our priorities obviously lay elsewhere yesterday, & the gamble blew up in our faces. Like I've been saying, 9.30pm on Tuesday will tell us if it was worth the gamble.

I'm from the future. You might want to fast forward to next week.

We all know that Atkinson and his officials failed to give us two definate penalties, but realistically by half time we should have been four up and out of sight. The twenty minute period in the second half was the third time this we've fallen apart and was similar to both games at Klanfield, with our season almost being defined by an hour of football in which the team have for some unknown reason just gone to pieces. The defence and midfield became sloppy in possession, they were hitting stray passes and failing to pick up the runners, which cost us dearly for a third time. It seems to come down to a case of straight forward concentration, or lack of it, which Pep will obviously be concerned about.

Pep and the club, give it a rest.

Pep didn't decide to bottle three gilt edged chances, Pep didn't decide to go missing for 30mins in the second half and concede three goals and I can go on and on.

Not having a dig at them but it's clear that's the way they see it.

Yes the players let him down but his team selection and then use of subs to change the match can be criticised.

Both games against the dippers and this one against the rags we’ve lost the game due to a mad 10/15 mins. We really need to sort ourselves out and stop them periods from occurring. Our mental strength was never in doubt the first half of the season but maybe now we’re seeing the boys tire, both physically and mentally.

I’ve noticed our pressing has gone way down in recent weeks and we’re not creating as much angles as we used to when Eddie has the ball. Dinho is vital to that and I don’t blame him if he’s shagged he’s played more or less every game. Mad we didn’t buy a CM in the summer/January.
Have you noticed though that we’ve taken our foot off the gas and taken our work rate to about 75% once we’ve got a lead all season against everyone?

I think it’s become so much part of our play that it’s a bad habit where we can easily slip into switching off in games now, which is suicidal when the big games come around.

I know I shouldn't listen to a rag but one said some thing to me yesterday that at the time I dismissed but I have thought about since.

What he roughly said was " you still have a small time mentality, the league is just a formality for you and yet you complain that you manager is trying to rotate to give you a fighting chance in the CL just because it's a derby". At the time I just fucked him off but the more I thought about it the more it made me question my thinking.

What if we do go through on Tuesday, most of us are expecting to go out but why? Ok we are three down but we are capable of turning that around but we need to be mentally strong in order to do so. Pep is focused and you can bet your life he hasn't given up. Say we do progress and get through to the semi's while getting the two wins required for the league? Would we really be too downbeat about the derby and if so why?

Of course if we somehow go through on Tuesday then he'll be completely vindicated. The odds are against that though.

If it was 2-0 or we scored an away goal then I'd be more confident.

Starting to come round again and I'm looking for positives from yesterday. First of all, we as fans were tempting fate big style yesterday: "stand up for the champions" and "ole, ole and ole", and singing "ole' on every completed pass: I hate all of that nonsense. These are worst things we could ever do in terms of tempting fate, and besides it makes us sound like all the 'glory, glory' fans supporting United, Liverpool and Arsenal: the last thing we want to do is become like them and start bigging ourselves with our 'istree' etc. Their fans can sing those songs if they like and have everyone else reaching for the sick bag - but please not us. I hope we NEVER sing those songs again.

It annoyed me too simply for the fact it riles the opposition up and works against us. 2-0 is not a scoreline to start taking the piss with half the match still to play. 4 or 5 no problem even then with our defence of late I would be cautious!

Another thing from yesterday, is that we have to remember that its the kind of crazy thing that makes football great - even when you are 2-0 nil up at home at half time, on the back of a great league run and everything going in your direction - the gods of football can and still make you pay. It has suited us when it has happened, Gillingham 1999, Aguero moment 2012, Gerard Slip 2014 and the 6-1 which made a major contribution to us eventually winning the league that season. Yesterday was a niggle, a reminder to not be complacent, but ultimately it should become just a footnote for this season and won't affect the running order - ironically, after Wednesday night's events I'd rather United finish 2nd than Liverpool. Just imagine if our lead had been 7 points before yesterday and not 16 - so better to be taking yesterday on the chin and hope learned what he needed to from yesterday.

Finally, it doesn't bode well for Tuesday does it? However, yesterday should remind us that anything is possible in football. Take the rags, what must it have been like at half-time in the South Stand yesterday: played off the pitch by our B-team with no recognised striker. And yet, look what happened second half - anything is possible. Looking ahead to Tueday, we are, like the rags yesterday, only at 'half-time' in fixture with Liverpool - so we should have every reason to believe that we can still seize control of our destiny. Its a steep climb but everything is possible in football - keep the faith.

Yeah, think we got used to coasting through games once we took the lead against teams and like you said it’s become a bad habit. Pep will need to fire them up for tuesday now I still think we have a chance at hammering Liverpool. They’re fragile.

Think you're spot on, there. It's been driving us, on the goals bets, fucking mad.

Agreed .
Just hunt in packs for the ball when we don't have it .

.

Wish you had not said that. If we lose to Tottenham and United win their next two - both before we play again - West Brom home and Bournemouth away.

We WILL be 7 points ahead.

That is not exactly an improbable scenario either.

On the plus side we will have a game in hand and be about to play Swansea at home.

And they could draw both or lose either one and we beat Tottenham and be champions by Sunday.

Not only did we lose to the scum they are now apparently world class again and Pogbad is the best midfielder in the world! (again)!

The deluded idiots, they had their lucky day in the sun. Let them believe what they want to believe. They are light years behind us. Hopefully they hand the whole united team new contracts. If 3 long punts into our box makes them think they are world class then they have bigger problems lying ahead

One of the best football headlines " how much is that Poggy in the window?" Come on guys and girls, we're all pissed off but the Rags would deffo swap places with us.
