United (H) Post Match Thread

Every team selection is controversial on here. Literally every game thread has people arguing over the team, not happy with Mahrez or Sterling or Jesus or Walker or go back a few months and it was Zinchenko or Stones or Gundogan or Rodri that Pep was being stubborn with and not picking the side Bluemoon wanted.

When we win, like we did 21 times in a row, it's all just forgotten and swept under the rug, and when we lose it's immediately "I told you so before kick off, Pep's too stubborn" etc. etc.

If you concede inside 30 seconds selection becomes pretty irrelevant. Pep doesn't pick a side to come back from 1-0 down.

I think you’re wrong on this one buddy. The general point is sound but for the biggest games you need your very best team. I think most people would agree that our best team right now has both Foden and Bernardo in it and neither were included. They embellish both our attack and our defending from the front.

Haha.. are you mad? Or just trolling??

We will be winning the league. That may not have been the case if we had lost those.

And as we will be winning the league regardless... are you saying we would be better off winning a dead rubber against the same opposition rather than a league cup semi?

Weird logic that my friend. Personally I would like to win the league and have a crack at the league cup too.
Dead rubber??? You're the one on drugs or trolling. It was a derby, a home derby at that. And we are 11 points clear with 30 points left. You'd better pray it was a dead rubber mate.

And anyway, is your excuse he was resting key players for the vital game against Southampton??? Your post makes no sense at all.

That game was made for United with a soft penalty 2 mins into the match. If they don't get a soft penalty they don't win simple as that. The referee's really need to make penalties harder to get, the way it is at the moment refs are encouraging players to fall over when they can still stay on their feet. No way was that a penalty he went down like he had been shot with an elephant gun. On another point what the fuck was Jesus doing their anyway he should of been on the halfway line while all that was going on.

Perhaps the lads should take advice from the lasses on derby matters.
Caroline Weir and Keira Walsh may have a word of advice or two.

It fucking hurts losing to that media darlings lot.

After the Jesus brainfart still there were 90 minutes to win, but we played into their simple plan, park the bus, counter and dive. Why ffs!

I had a feeling we wouldn’t win as soon as that was awarded. We struggle to come from behind against better sides who have fairly good defences. When was the last time we did it? I can’t remember. Scoring first half always key for us. Pep surely warned them about contact in the box as they are the masters of winning pens. Some of our lot could learn a thing or two on how to go down.

KDB is a fantastic player with many qualities but we are a better balanced team without him IMO.

Sorry but this is nonsense. I absolutely agree he was woeful today. He looked knackered and he gave the ball away far too much with misplaced short passes. However, he still created 8 chances. He is our only truly world class attacking threat and he walks into any team in world football.

If you were picking a city starting 11 based on form then it would be Bernardo and Gundogan in as the no. 8s. I just don’t get the point about balance? Rodri, Bernardo and Gundo are all tidy on the ball and keep possession better than him but that’s the point and it’s why him and David Silva complimented each other so well - De Bruyne usually brings the energy, drive and unpredictability to the team and he is the one City player who hurts the opposition whilst the others are keeping things ticking over. He’s just not in form atm, but that doesn’t equate to us being better balanced without him.

A bad day at the office. Extremely disappointing but I‘m not sure that the end of a 21 game winning run is the time to rip into the players, as annoying as it is to be beaten by a very limited, one dimensional United team.

Big picture, I think we have outperformed this season and if we do end up winning it as we should then I would regard this title as a bonus given how we started the season.

We‘re currently a good but not a great team, and Guardiola has done well to fashion a more slow tempo style which has worked against most teams but obviously not today, and may not work next season either. I think we had the wrong team from the off - we needed more strength in midfield and Foden and Walker had to start - but we will need to make a few good signings in the summer if we want to push on next season.

The two concerns for me today were firstly Guardiola showing favouritism in his selection again (similar to the beginning of the season) and the form of KDB. He’s been poor all season apart from the odd flash of brilliance and at times in the first half he looked disinterested. I had hoped that he would play his way back into form for the end of the season but on the current evidence he’s still way below par.

The reinvention the team is dismantled when Foden and Bernie don't play.

De Bruyne and Sterling are the two main problems, being picked on rep alone.

Love Pep for many things, but it doesn't require £20m a season to see what the solutions are.

He doesn't care enough about this fixture clearly, or he has again shit the bed when he considers the qualities of the opponent more than his own team.

Lucky not to concede six today.

This is why I fear he will never win the champions league with us. Personally I don’t think we have the forwards to win it, but you can rely on Pep to overthink it.
Notice the regression in Gundo since Kev came back in?

He isn't getting closer to goal anymore because he is basically running back in to try and help Rodri out because De Bruyne has lost the ball again.

Felt sorry for Rodri and Gundo today, both had plenty of effort.

They need a pair of legs around them and Pep isn't giving it to them.

Would you give KdB and extension then or cash in?
You won't get pelters from me, I have felt for a while the club has a big decision to make, because I feel Phil can do a better job than him on either flank.

Tough call, though.

Cash in on KdB?
Let’s get Aouar, Messi and Haaland.
