Assessment of current form is fine, but have you watched all teams to compare? I watched Liverpool and they were pathetic in the 2nd half vs 10-man Newcastle (they were lucky to win all 3 games). Arsenal were poor at United (United were the better team) despite winning 1:0. We played better against Brighton than Arsenal did against United.
To be honest, i've watched about 50% of all games so far - can't see the wife letting me keep that up!

Agreed, i'm not just looking at the results - that was the worst i'd seen arsenal play in maybe 3 years. and they still won. That counts for something for both teams. I thought we played better against brighton for 60 minutes (and it wasn't great), but for the last 30 we played exactly like arsenal v united - except without the set pieces.

As always i appreciate your measured tone - always decent to have a back and forth on football with you.

Can't argue with either of those specific examples, but the difference is that it didn't feel inevitable that either Liverpool or Arsenal were going to drop points (let alone lose), did it?

Whereas against Brighton, the writing was on the wall the moment that they equalised. Our body language betrayed this and they smelt blood. Justifiably, as it turned out, again.

Not a 'fanny-wipe', just realistic.

Given last season and the start of this one, bad expectations seem inevitable.

We were very poor (by our standards) in the last 30 minutes at Brighton. I think it's a combination of frustration after their goal, lack of confidence, tiredness (short pre-season, the injuries are likely related), Pep's subs (O'Reilly instead of Gonzalez was a questionable decision) and several absences (Cherki, Foden, Savinho).

The thought just occurred to me that the weather for this one is supposed to be rotten. With both teams already being full of cock ups, could this turn into a comedy of errors. Misjudging the flight of the ball with the wind, players slipping on the wet pitch and some tasty sliding tackles. Or maybe I’m just over thinking whilst laid up on the couch with man flu.

It suits Pep to say he wants to work with a small squad but on occasions such as this we do look remarkably threadbare

Think we saw his stubbornness coming through in summer. Whilst I appreciate he doesn't want a 25-man senior squad as he doesn't want to have to leave players in the stand/at home on matchday, the way the football schedule is going the reality is we will NEVER have 25 players fully fit and available anyway.

cant believe the amount of injury problems were having, its been constant now for over 12 months, can anyone actually remember when we had a full fit squad to choose from

Reijnders should breeze past their central midfield with ease.

If he has a good game I think we win comfortably. I'd play him along with Rodri and Nico, completely dominate that area.
I would bank on it him walking through Uniteds defence ..... he never really breezed past Tottenhams or Brightons !

It's ridiculous ..... we must be the worst club at keeping players fit in the Premier League!

For that last 10 minutes alone at the etihad last season City owe us one big time. Proper performance needed stick it on them from the get go.
I thought that before the Derby at Old Toilet.

Watching it had the same effect as taking a whole box of Mogadon.

EDIT:
We'll have a decent idea of who's fit to play after the press conference tomorrow, but if reports are true and most of our injured players are actually fit, I'd go with something like this:
Donnarumma
Khusanov, Dias, Ake, Gvardiol
Rodri, Bernardo
Foden, Reijnders, Bobb
Haaland

It's a derby and we've had a poor record against them, particularly at home, considering we're miles better.

We remain the better team, but form goes out the window in this one.

I want to see us showing the fight we should in a derby and getting 3pts. In this game I don't care about the performance as much. Get stuck into them, don't give them a sniff and make the fuckers cry.

As long as both sides feel as happy as they did after this, I doubt mind what happens...
