United (N) | FA Cup Final | Post-Match Thread

So today ended rather badly.
Office meeting attended by a proper gobshite rag who’s avoided yours truly all day.
He couldn’t contain himself.
All I said was
”I hope this meeting doesn’t go on longer than a goalless scoreline in a Manchester cup final.”

Fuck off you Blue **** isn’t the right thing to say just as the manager walked in.
I just shook my head and laughed.
I was pulled to one side after the meeting and asked if I wanted to make an official complaint.
Again I laughed and I just said nah my missus has called me worse!

All a bit pathetic really. Don’t think management are happy though.
Superb. Well played. An Oscar defining performance

Yes. I watched the match back on Sunday (not for the penalty incident), but the replays clearly show the ball hitting the fingers of Grealish, then slowing down with an upward trajectory.

As I said previously, how many times have we seen a shot hit the post, but on replay it shows the slightest of touches from the keeper deviated the ball enough that it bounced out to be cleared, whereby without keeper intervention, it would've probably hit the post & gone in?

At high speeds, the slightest contact is enough to deviate a ball by an inch or two, which could be the difference between hitting the bar or looping in over the keeper?

By the letter of the law it was a penalty. Now whether the law is fit for purpose, is another matter altogether. Both Alistair Mann & Michael Brown thought the same as me as soon as they saw the replay.

Also, if this happened the other way around, we'd be apoplectic with rage if it wasn't given, regardless of how harsh the award was.
It would have been interesting to know which United players were targeted by WB's header since there are none in any kind of range. The penalty area was peopled by blues, so Jack was not seeking to gain an advantage. Nor was it a penalty by the letter of the law, because the law still requires handball to be deliberate. As I have said earlier Jack was not trying to cheat nor was he trying to gain an advantage by breaking any rule: he was not looking at WB or the ball but simply trying to turn to see the play and THE BALL HIT IS HAND. VAR chose to reach the perverse conclusion that Jack had handled the ball deliberately. Those who seek to justify such stupidity are ruining the game and trying to make the outcome of cup finals dependent on nothing more than chance. Surprisingly enough it has been suggested that it would simplify the game if ball to hand were classed as deliberate handball. It would certainly simplify the game, but it would also ruin it. Funnily enough there has been less discussion of whether a stud stamping tacle on the ankle should be a mandatory red card or not. I wonder why.

A brilliant line.

Chapeau, Sir.

Deliberate handball is an offence regardless of where your hand / arm is however I can only assume as it couldn’t have considered deliberate that they awarded the penalty based on this:
  • touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised
As has been discussed already unless Jack has rewritten the laws of physics then his arm didn’t make his body bigger as the position of his arm was a consequence of running backwards, jumping and then trying to turn in mid air. I want Howard Webb to have the balls to come out and release the full transcript between VAR and the ref and then explain to all physic teachers that they have been wrong all this time. The club should also have the balls to let the media know they have written asking for this and the transcript from the derby game earlier in the season and they are awaiting a response.

I suggested to a couple of rags at work this morning that they would probably have done better against us if Rashford had played.

Unfortunately, neither of them bit; they simply agreed that he was shite.
