At what price will united be under £1b in valuation?

They'd likely split the stock before that or commit a short term buy back to sustain the price.

From whatever i know , splitting stock will increase the no of shares , right? Then the price will be readjusted to a even lower level , right? How will it affect the valuation of the company?

Correct. Splitting the stock at say 1:2 will double the number of shares but halve their individual value. Stock splits happen when a share is performing well, not badly.

Not always. Especially when the party involved is attempting a short term buy back. In by splitting the share and buying sums of the adjusted price it's a move to instill confidence. So in short... The stock sits at $8... United split at 4 and buy back an allotment. If it were to all play out the stock they bought back could see raises of 25%-30%. Thus the $4 dollar price becomes $5. It has become quite prevalent on Wall Street after the bailouts.
