If he is faking it (and I fully believe he is) then he should never be allowed to wear an England shirt again. Clearly thinks he's above the U21's. Bet he hates the fact that no matter what he does the defining image of his career will always be the look on his face at Sunderland.
Purposely caught shingles rather than play for the U21s.

If he plays again within 4 weeks, questions need to be asked. Shingles is very debilitating and isn't cured by lemsip.

On the plus side, the hive like rashes he will have on his face will improve his looks for a few weeks.

Depends when he caught it - apparently ruled him out of the Fulham game last weekend.

This article, which debunks the rags' claim of 659 million fans, was published last August. It turns out that 5 million people round the world have bought rag merchandise and 26.5 million have clicked the like button on their Facebook page.

http://www.businessinsider.com/hey-gm-m ... ans-2012-8
And in other breaking news, tv viewers around the globe are captivated as man finally walks on the moon....

Nevertheless your club and people associated with it are still quoting this ridiculous figure, probably on the basis that if they repeat it often enough it's bound to be true.

You and I both know it's a ridiculous figure but the 13 new sponsors signed up already this season may not realise it.

2bh they shouldn't be allowed to sponsor you if they can't do due diligence properly.

So you admit your club have deliberately lied and misrepresented themselves for their own commercial advantage. Nothing new there then.

Incidentally, given the tenuous definition of "follower" in that survey (figures extrapolated from a survey of 4 random football fans in a pub in Weaste who were asked "have you ever, purposefully or inadvertently, looked out for, checked, or accidentally glanced at a Manchester United match result?") I'm surprised the claim is only 659m fans ;-)

No, I admit the marketing dept of the club I support have commissioned and worded a survey in a manner which suits their aims. They're a marketing dept.and as such, whether we like it or not, are there to promote the club or "brand". They happen to be very successful at that.

-- Tue Feb 05, 2013 1:12 pm --

But why do they continue to lie? The offical website was still at it as recently as last month.

News Release
Manchester United Sign Sponsorship With PT Multistrada Arah Sarana Tbk
JAKARTA, INDONESIA--(Marketwire - Jan 7, 2013) - Manchester United ( NYSE : MANU ) -- Premier League leaders, Manchester United have today announced a three-and-a-half year partnership with Indonesian tyre manufacturer, Multistrada.

As one of Indonesia's leading tyre manufactures Multistrada produces almost 50,000 tyres daily and imports to 83 countries, from Alaska to Australia. Much like Manchester United, the company prides itself on being a leader and trendsetter in its industry, introducing innovations to meet the needs of its customers.

With over 54 million followers in Indonesia, Manchester United is the country's most supported football club -- with a cumulative TV reach of over 903 million Indonesian fans during last season. Recognising the strength of the Club's following in Indonesia, Multistrada joins other leading brands in the country, working with the Club to bring the magic of Manchester United closer to its fans on a daily basis.

Manchester United Commercial Director, Richard Arnold comments:

"Manchester United is delighted to welcome Multistrada as its Official Tyre Partner in Indonesia. We have always had huge support in the country and our commercial sponsorships are an important way for the Club to connect with those fans. Just a few months ago almost 12,000 fans queued for a place at our #IAMUNITED fan party in Jakarta, even though we only had 6,000 places available.

"Although from two very different industries, Multistrada and Manchester United share many common values, which is ultimately what we look for in a sponsor and I am confident this will be a successful partnership."

Multistrada's President Director, Pieter Tanuri comments:

"Multistrada is extremely proud to be in this prestigious partnership with the world's number one football club, Manchester United.

"We are confident that this partnership will better leverage our brand to the international world. Manchester United and Multistrada both share the same core values and the importance we both place on the assurance of product and brand quality.

"Together, we know we can instigate an enormous ripple of positive impact in Indonesia and beyond. Subsequently, we also believe that we will give hope and opportunity to millions of Indonesian youth through our social movement program called 'A Million Footballs of Hope for Indonesian Children' which is one of the inherent parts of this new partnership.

After all, Manchester United and Multistrada both ultimately share an aspiration for a better world."

Established in 1988 Multistrada now has three tyre ranges, the Achilles, Corsa and Strada, producing tyres for Passenger Car Radial (PCR), Light Truck Radial (LTR) and Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).

Because they're selling a product? They gave a cleat definition of their definition of follower in the documentation that accompanied the IPO, and I'd assume all potential new sponsors will have full access to the survey in question (including details of the numbers of people surveyed, exact questions asked and how the results were then extrapolated) so are fully able to judge for themselves the validity of the claim, but it obviously suits the aims of both the club and the sponsors to continue to bandy the figure in the media.

Why does it bother you so much?

-- Tue Feb 05, 2013 1:24 pm --

Sorry, I meant to say clear explanation of their definition of follower but I'm sure you get the gist.
