If I have a client who invested £30,000 and their investment is £120,000 ten years later, then they have done far far better than a client who invested £100,000 that now have £200,000 ten years later.

I don't think anyone would argue against that.
Your clients might!
Would they fuck as like Colin.

Go on, explain.

100% increase or a 400% increase. It's not a toughie.
That didn't come out as I meant it.

FFP rules should enforce registration of companies and holding companies in the country where the club plays football, not tax havens like the Cayman Islands.
As a result of being listed as a NYSE company man utd are paying a tax rate of 35% rather than the 28% they were in britain. But go on.

However they are able to use different accounting practices and not declare all of the workings of their finances

Wikipedia:
Deferral is one of the main features of the worldwide tax system that allows U.S multinational companies to delay paying taxes on foreign profits. Under US tax law, companies are not required to pay US tax on their foreign subsidiaries’ profits for many years, even indefinitely until the earnings are returned to US. Therefore, it is one of the main reasons that U.S corporations pay low taxes, even though the corporate tax rate in the U.S is one of the highest rates (35%) in the world.

Deferral is beneficial for U.S companies to raise the cost of capital relatively to their foreign-based competitors. Their foreign subsidiaries can reinvest their earnings without incurring additional tax that allows them to grow faster. It is also valuable to U.S. corporations with global operations, especially for corporations with income in low-tax countries. Some of the largest and most profitable U.S. corporations pay exceedingly low tax rates through their use of subsidiaries in so-called tax haven countries. Eighty-three of the United States’s 100 biggest public companies have subsidiaries in countries that are listed as tax havens or financial privacy jurisdictions, according to the Government Accountability Office.

From the Manchester United Ltd registration with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission
MATERIAL CAYMAN ISLANDS TAX CONSIDERATIONS
There is, at present, no direct taxation in the Cayman Islands and interest, dividends and gains payable to the Company will be received free of all Cayman Islands taxes. The Company has received an undertaking from the Governor in Cabinet of the Cayman Islands to the effect that, for a period of twenty years from the date of such undertaking, no law that thereafter is enacted in the Cayman Islands imposing any tax or duty to be levied on profits, income or on gains or appreciation, or any tax in the nature of estate duty or inheritance tax, will apply to any property comprised in or any income arising under the Company, or to the shareholders thereof, in respect of any such property or income.

Must be getting tax advice from Baconface.

Taggart's begging letter made me laugh. Still using that Theatre of Dreams tag? It was tacky when some PR smartarse first thought it up.

We'll soon be turning full circle and updating the 1960's terrace song (to the Addams family theme tune):

Old Trafford's a museum
Coz no-one goes to see 'em
They really are a scree-am
The Glazer family.

It wouldn't be summer any more without a transfer struggle or two across Manchester as Unietd and City fight over the best players around.

This year of course, Sir Alex Ferguson came out on top by bagging Robin van Persie from Arsenal, and the United chief has had a sly dig at his rivals in today's programme.

"A lot of players would like to play for Manchester United - as the agents keep telling us - but over the last two or three years I think there has been a trend for players to settle for the cash, and as we all know, Manchester City can beat us all at that," Ferguson told United Review.

"So I found it very heartening when Robin's motivation was to chase his ambitions to play for us and hopefully win a trophy or two."

Does he ever stop talking about us?!

Bitter twat.
