How will Rooney, and his £300k a week, react if RVP is given the captaincy..

I am not so sure van Gaal will - even if the media and the fans are speculating about this. Van Gaal in club teams usually takes a midfielder not a striker - because the captain has to be his right hand in the middle of the pitch. At Barcelona he made Guardiola his captain because of this and van Bommel was at Bayern - later Lahm but together with Schweinsteiger. In national teams it is something different. In the Elftal it was first Sneijder, but he was injured a lot and did not perform so great due to that and that was when he changed that to RvP and second Robben. But that are the only two world class players of them who are consistently in the team since ages.

I think LVG will move Rooney back into centre midfield.

Mata behind RVP (C).

Big decisions to be made. I don't really know how else you'd get the best out of those 3 players unless 1 left...

Has anyone on here defended the van gaal appointment yet? It seems like its not being talked enough about how awful an appointment this is going to be. They do realise he's won fuck all in the past decade and has largely been a failure everywhere he's hes went in recent years. Like how is this a good idea. Not to mention all their targets are going to be largely unattainable... and clubs/agents are going to take the piss out of them on transfer fees and wages knowing how desperate they are and to go along with the fact that Woodward has no idea how to utilize the transfer market..

I will, I think he's an excellent manager and he'll turn them around, a la Mancini.

I don't know mate, Van Gaal has won titles in every club he has been in but he does sound a bit like Mancini from what I hear i.e. he is very demanding etc.., however he does sound like a better coach.

I don't buy this United won't be able to attract players, some players yes but they will still attract some big names.

Ronaldinho chose Barcelona back in 2003 over United despite Barcelona finishing 6th that year and out of the Champions League for example, I just think maybe they will have to do something similar to what we did when we were out of the Champions League and pay over the odds in regards to fee's and wages.

They will pay out the odds but van gaal won't last long if the results aren't instantly turned around. Having to appoint giggs as your assistant means as soon as things go poorly they'll be clamoring for him to take over. Why would you want that if ur van gaal? It looks doomed from the off for me tbh and I don't see how it will go well. They're squad is really quite awful compared to other top 4 sides and they're losing all the veteran players. Recipe for disaster tbh
