Caf reckons that they're in for James McCarthy of Everton.
Mostly a "meh" reaction as he's not foreign enough.

Nothing to be with being foreign but if the papers are correct, we've pulled out of potentially signing Toni Kroos to sign James McCarthy instead. Not exactly a great player that's going to be a massive part of our squad overhaul. I can (just about) understand van Gaal deciding he doesn't want Kroos but I don't understand what McCarthy will offer apart from work ethic, and we have Tom Cleverley for that...

United pulled out of signing kroos did they? You sure it wasn't kroos snubbing you?

Don't worry we already know the answer.

Patrice may well be staying now.

Even though Luke Shaw is "imminently due to sign".

I smell something.
I heard from a journalist a while ago that Evra was desperate to stay but Moyes didn't want him. Wouldn't surprise me if he did sign a new contract.

Read somewhere today that Evra and Davie fell out over bacon butties on a pre-match flight.
Was from a tabloid but cant remember which.

The rags are going to keep the enjoyment of last season going all year round for us.

In a strange way I'm starting to like them. ;)

So far Kroos and Shaw have been named and decided not to be shamed.

Will Woodward last the summer? If he can't deliver anything by the time Butt Head arrives he's going to get a battering. from him.

No idea, and it wouldn't bother me either way but papers printed Van Gaal said no to the transfer, and then Kroos comes out saying United were never an option even though hes been playing up the link for the past 6 months - sounds like hes frustrated.

Like I said, it doesn't matter. Main issue is we need great midfielders or we'll be in trouble.

I thought McCarthy had a good season, last year. For me he was comparable to much-improved Henderson at Red Scouse when I saw him (although I don't think he played as many games).
He'd certainly be a huge improvement on Cleverly, who has never impressed me to the same degree. Let's put it this way, a couple of weeks ago, I was worried about McCarthy being fit to tog out v us at Goodison. When derby day rolls around, I'll be hoping that Cleverly is on the pitch.

Oh dear. It seems Nike aren't prepared to meet the rags' sky high demands for shirt sponsorship.

From the Wall Street Journal.

Manchester United, fresh off its worst season in more than two decades, is shooting for another record: the largest sponsorship deal in soccer.

The English football juggernaut is in talks with Nike Inc. NKE +1.39% and some of the biggest names in sports apparel--as well as a Michigan-based maker of lacrosse wear--over a deal to outfit the team. Manchester United MANU -0.76% executives think the contract could top $600 million over a dozen or more years, according to people familiar with the discussions.

Nike, the current supplier of Manchester United uniforms and first in line for the next deal, is balking at Man United’s lofty asking price, the people said. The current deal with Nike, valued at GBP302 million ($507.8 million) across 13 years, entitles the sportswear maker to manufacturing and retail rights to the team’s uniforms, as well as fan wear and merchandise. The team and the company jointly operate Manchester United Merchandising Ltd., which handles all of the team’s merchandising business and a network of junior soccer schools. The Nike swoosh is also prominently displayed at Old Trafford Stadium--Manchester United’s home turf--along with signage from other sponsors.

The U.S.-based company has the right to match any competing offer that Manchester United may receive. While Nike executives would like to see the team continue to wear its brand in games, they won’t do so at any cost, according to a person familiar with the matter. A $1 billion multiyear deal between the two parties, reported by some British tabloids, would be out of the question, this person said.

Last week, Manchester United CEO Ed Woodward said the club is having “very good discussions with a number of parties.”

I am going to break a lifetime tradition.... I am going to praise the rags, to be fair it is the PR machine I am praising, it is absolutely brilliant. They have had the press and their gullible fans hanging on for weeks about who they are going to sign, including the manager. At the same time they have fed the press line after bullshit line about which players they are signing, all of them world class and all of them will have them winning the League at a canter they are so good.
The long and short of it is their PR dept. have kept a 7th placed club in the headlines for over a month whist the rags do very little. Tom Cruise is signing, the first of 5 (6) (7 ?) world class players Van Gall has lined up. Loads renew their season ticket and then it is leaked that actually Kroos isn't the right type of player. Note, Kroos hasn't turned them down.... they have decided he is not a player THEY want !!!

I think our Vicky does a great job but she should go on a 6 month secondment to learn how to really bullshit/lie/cheat.

That's not even the half of it mate, they're geniuses, only they could extract an apology from a national for actually telling the truth.

From wednesday's I (Independent)...

Wayne Rooney

In an article in yesterday's i. we said that Wayne Rooney had not published a message welcoming Louis Van Gaal's arrival as Manchester United manager. Rooney subsequently tweeted that it was "Great to see Louis Van Gaal has been named @ ManUtd manager. Looking forward to working with him". We apologise for any offence caused.

I knew Ian Herbert was neck deep up the rags arse but that's pretty damning as far as sycophancy goes and a pretty telling indictment of media bias.

Fuck me are we going to have to put up with sky sports news creaming their pants all summer every time the rags and a player gets mentioned in the same breath......
The whiff of desperation wafting from the theatre of shattered dreams....again!!!

Evra signing for another 12 months suggests Shaw is definitely on his way there imo.

Ive heard all day how they pulled out of the kroos signing - fucking lol.....!
