United thread 2013/14

It's a repeat of the summer with Fabregas - standard tired old excuse to be trotted out "We tried really hard but the calibre of players we need weren't available" instead of the truth "We made some bullshit offer just so it would look like we were trying to spend money we don't have".

They can probably get Charlie Adam to partner Fellaini in midfield for £7-8m ;-)

Found this mildly amusing....

Scarcely anyone in Britain had heard of Malcolm Glazer or his six children before they began buying United shares in 2003. Malcolm, the son of Lithuanian Jewish immigrants to the US, took over the family watchmaking business

Tick tock anyone?

Appropriate :)

That FT article confirms what I've been saying for a while. The Glazers are only interested in keeping revenues up and costs down. Spending big to win trophies is not part of their plan and they're happy to replace variable revenues like CL income with more reliable income streams such as commercial deals.

And it's starting to dawn on the deluded rags now that's this is the plan.

They have a way to go before dropping like we did but they are making bloody good foundations for it.
I feel like all my years as a decent person is being rewarded watching this start to hit them hehe.
The best bit is appeals to their heart will mean nothing, you don't get that rich by allowing sentiment to cloud your judgement. Their bleating cries of rage to spend will go unanswered.

These comments by Poll will also not help Agent Moyse turn things around - they also confirm what everyone has known for years.

In a sense I am surprised but pleased that refs can now admit it. I wonder if a lot will be made of it and it could work against the scum - probably not....

Former Premier League referee Graham Poll admits to feeling "sense of relief" when Man United won

Former Premier League referee Graham Poll admits he used to feel "a sense of relief" when Man United played well in and won games he officiated.

Writing in his Daily Mail column, Poll said:

"I would concede there was a sense of relief when United played well and won, particularly at Old Trafford.

"I knew if they didn't win there was every chance of seeing and, more importantly, hearing Ferguson and reading his comments about me in the papers the next day.

"All referees knew that Fergie's standing in the game - and the fact that he was at the biggest club - meant that when he unleashed the hairdryer on a referee there were inevitable headlines."

Poll also suggested David Moyes has to accept he cannot enjoy anything like the same intimidating effect he believes Mr. Ferguson enjoyed for many years.

"I fear another defeat for Moyes," he said.

"[Moyes] must accept that he does not have the same intimidating presence as his predecessor had."

No Pogba deal in January...but United could swoop in summer
14 Jan 2014 22:30

Juventus are not prepared to sell Paul Pogba in January despite listening to United's offer.

I can hear a Queen song coming on ... "Another One Bites The Dust"
In regards to who Utd say they will try and buy the queen song that suits them best is Liar.

Under pressure is a good bet also, should play that in the build up to utd games.

I never in my entire life thought I would say this but I wouldn't hate if United got a result Sunday.

Stone him!!!
I'm here to support City, even if that means some mid table scum beating our closest competitors.

Where I come from and for my age group - supporting CITY means hating absolutely everything about that shite club.

At the start of the season if I could have been an option od CITY 3rd and the scum not qualifying for CL or CITY 1st with scum 2nd or 3rd my choice would have been easy

Easy indeed, another title all day long.

What gives you that idea? Wouldn't surprise me if Cleverley did as he's wank, can't see them selling Duncan though.
That's what they're saying at the swamp. Journos are being briefed that Jones & Smalling aren't considered good enough. And if you think about it, they've got a crock like Camelgob at centre-half yet England's greatest ever prospect since Bobby Moore can't get a game in his supposedly best position.

The quote was something along the lines of "He thinks he's John Terry. He's not."

Of course he isn't, he's much better!

It really is impossible not to read all of this with a massive, massive grin.

Rafael and Fabio want out, Vidic likely out, Camelgob out, Smalling not good enough, Jones the same - Who does that even leave? Evans?

Zinidine Zidane clearly not good enough, Anderson going, Carrick good but old, Fletcher no-one's really sure about..

Young, shit. Nani, highly inconsistent at best. Valencia, one trick pony. Janujaz, future Ballon D'or winner, narrowly missed out this year. Giggs, lol.

For Wellbeck see Zidane. God knows about Hernandez. Rooney will go to Chelsea and RVP would rather be just about anywhere than the rags right now.

Fucked. Gloriously so. Would love to see them fall so far out of the CL places they're scraping the barrel for kids or hugely over priced 'league proven' players like we had too.

So how did this lot win the PL last year then?

Exactly this.

I don't give a Donald Duck what happens to that lot, as long as they help us by beating our rivals.

Leighton Baines: Everton defender set to sign long-term deal
By Phil McNulty
Chief football writer Leighton Baines is close to agreeing a new long-term deal to stay at Everton.

Former Toffees manager David Moyes failed in his efforts to take the 29-year-old England left-back with him to Manchester United last summer.

Now Everton are increasingly confident they will shortly be able to confirm Baines, who signed for £6m from Wigan in August 2007, has committed the rest of his top-flight career to the club.

It is thought the deal could be worth £75,000 per week to Baines.

Everton are currently on a break in Tenerife and Baines could sign his new contract when they return.
"Well, we tried to sign him, but Everton blew us out of the water, we couldn't match the opportunity to challenge for a champions league place" - David Moyes
