It amuses me to see that United have started their revival when they largely reverted to the players Ferguson and Moyes left behind, the same ones that many reds said should never pull on the shirt again, Young, Valencia, Fellaini, Smalling, Evans etc. while di Maria, Falcao, Rojo and Shaw have not exactly been the first names on the team sheet.

Let's assume that they reach the group stages of the CL and have an infusion of expensive new recruits eg Cavani, Hummels, Dani Alves and Strootman will they ditch the personnel and style that they've used to drag themselves into the Top 4 but will be trashed in Europe once serious opposition is faced in favour of the bewildering formations the TT started the season with that baffled many players and fans or will they try to shoehorn the new recruits into a modified Fergieball strategy? Be interesting to find out.

Also amuses me to see the huge relief that my local rag neighbours and townspeople have plastered all over their clueless, pasty mugs. They're back after their bump in the road.
Thing is though, that "back" means competing with 3 or 4 others for the honour of winning the title in 2nd or 3rd best league in the world whereas just a few short years ago they believed that they were the best club in the world on and off the pitch.

what in the 70's, when English football was hardly on TV in England, they had it in China did they? Good one pal

I apologize for not keeping up with your bullshit. Point still stands though. You cunts would put 'outside Manchester united fc' on an Isis flag if it made you money.

I would never have said players aren't fit to wear the shirt, but Young, and Fellaini in particular had a hard time last season. I don't thinki Fellaini will do anything in Europe next season to be honest. He's only done well in the Prem the past 5-6 weeks because the standard of the division and opposition is so poor in England. Don't think Cavani will be anywhere near Old Trafford, Hummels will be with you if Klopp goes to you, if not he might end up with us. I think we might end up with Depay, who can play either up top or on the wing, and he might give Chicharito another go if he wants to be there, that would leave us with Rooney, Depay, Chich as our 3 attacking options, and I think it might be that. I think we'll get 1 more centre back, probably a right back and a centre mid. We won't win the league, but hopefully top 4 and through the group stages will do for next season. Falcao has been very poor, Shaw has been good but has fitness problems, Rojo the same, looks decent when he plays. And di Maria on paper has been more productive than Coutinho who is up for the player of the season award. His influence has been disappointing for his fee though. I just hope we don't go out and try and buy everyone, becaue that would be disappointing and it's not good for English football.

With regards to being "back", I think top 4 is being back, it keeps you on the radar if you stay in the Champions League. Even after finishing seventh we're still ranked as the most expensive club, and it takes a very long barren spell for that to disappear. Look at other sports. LA Lakers haven't won the NBA Championship in 5 years, still the most famous name though, New York Yankees haven't won a world series in 6 years. By a mile they're the biggest name in baseball, Ice Hockey not so popular as the other 2, but teams like Detroit Red WIngs, last Stanley Cup in 2008.
It's really difficult to become a big name/big club. Takes around 20 years realistically, but once you have that appeal, it tends not to disappear, there's plenty of clubs//franchises in all sports that have a good 3-4 years and then just disappear and eeryone forgets about them.

i'm guessing you know that in the past 22 years Barcelona have won the European Cup only 3 times. So they can't be European Giants either. They're just small time like United. So why can't you get past them in the Champions League?

Also you're using Real Madrid as an example? A club bankrolled by Franco, then the King Juan Carlos. Doesn't really make any sense to use them as an argument, as surely it's worse to take taxpayers money to fund your success than that of the 'Edwards Dynasty'[/quote

You still dont answer the question where your money came from? And also barcelona have a chance of making it 4 this year you don't, and while we are on about getting past barcelona remind me again how the mighty swamp dwellers did against barcelona the last 2 times you met them?

Our money came from shareholders, and gate receipts. We got the final twice against them and lost against probably the best side of the last 20 years. Seeing as though the time we were playing them was when they made up the core of the Spanish World Cup winners and Euro Champions, not the side now that are world class but are a nothing like the side we played. Rakitic isn't even close to how good Xavi was a few years back, they also replaced Puyol with Mathieu. They're still class, but as a team they're worse, they're prosbably just better up top now

That old myth again. Not in 19 fucking 89 it didn't which is the period he was referring to when asking you the question. Fact is, you spent way beyond your fucking means in the summer of 1989 when assembling the most expensive team in the history of the English game at the time and most of the money didn't come from the club coffers. It was actually a huge gamble and not too dissimilar to what Leeds attempted to do under Ridsdale. It didn't pay off for Leeds but it did pay off for United, yet it wasn't far off being a total disaster for you. The FA Cup win in 1990 kick-started it all but it masks the fact that you were in a relegation battle for much of the 1989-90 season and, incredibly, you actually only secured safety after City had done.

The simple fact is the "we've only ever spent what we've earned" line is the biggest myth ever peddled in football. United have been bankrolled by rich benefactors many more times throughout their history than City have. What Mansour is doing now is not much different to what John Henry Davies did for United over a hundred years previously and if FFP had existed in 1902 you'd be fucked. Then there was James Gibson, plus who can forget City riding to your rescue on numerous occasions down the years, not just with letting you use our ground but also the handout you received when you were struggling in your Newton Heath days and, some years later, using our considerable influence in lobbying the football league and getting Manchester Central FC thrown out due to you lot skriking about how they were jeopardising your very future and begging us to do something about it, Far from slagging us off, you cunts should be forever grateful to us that you're still in existence today. MUFC - forever in our debt.

So Sir Edward Hulton at City then for example, he didn't put any money into your club then did he not? Or you breaking the British transfer record in 79 on Steve Daley, to win f*ck all.
You make some fair points, but also some absolute shite, because as your man said above, it was United who apparently started this mass money in English football. So if it wasn't for that, there'd be no Mansour, no Premier League, no Etihad Campus etc. Swings and roundabouts when you look at it.
We've also helped Bury FC a lot of times to survive, but we don't go on about it. Sounding like a scouser asking for recognition for something done 100 years ago, by someone you have no personal connection to.

I love it when rags come on here and start shouting the odds, they was adamant that we would never win any trophy period, they felt quite safe in the knowledge that we would always be beneath them, ickle old citeh bless them.
Then we went and won the fa cup, demolished them in their own back yard and won the league......
This was a fuckin disaster of epic proportions for the rag hoardes, something that will stick in their throat forever.
That's why we get rag gobshites on here, they can't quite grasp the fact that we're still here.
The pain must be unbearable.

Come on mate you're joking there aren't you? The only Reds who would think that must be about 10 years old. How many trophies you won since the Sheikh's been there? The same as us isn't it, so there's fuck all to shout about there. That 6-1, shite match that as a Red, but 4-1 at home to Liverpool was 1000x worse. Not sure why the pain is unbearable. Although you have reminded me, i must pre-order the 4-2 game from the other week on DVD. Na only kidding, we don't bring out shite like that for one match

I never said no-one other than Mansour had put money into City, just that you lot have had plenty of occasions during your history where you've been over reliant on benefactor investment, meaning the idea that you've only ever been self-funded is a crock of shite.
I don't go on about it that much - I only bring it up when dealing with clueless mouth-breathing revisionist twats such as yourself. Decent United posters have always had a warm welcome from me on here but sanctimonious pricks will always get both barrels. You have the bare-faced cheek to call us liars yet lying is in the DNA of a large number of United fans when they say they've "earned" their success. It's like decades and decades of your history never even existed.

Another fucking lie. Actually you do, and despite accusing us of being small-time when we do it, laughably you were doing it before City did it for the first time in 1989 following our 5-1 derby win. When you beat Liverpool 3-1 on New Year's Day 1989 your club released a video of the match.
