This a Roma side stripped of many regulars compared to United, BTW. Half of the players are youths/B-team. Benatia, Iturbe and Destro may be their only regulars during the season.

But I do hope they leather Roma and The Tactical One decides no more reinforcements are needed.

I told you before that van Gaal does not buy superstars, he makes them. He has a golden hand for that. You will see. And the main thing is the system with which he works - and I do not think that in the first year apart from Mou anybody will have an antidote against it. I do not see a team that can play like Dortmund or other Bundesliga teams in the Prem. Even if he has less preparation time - but I think that his assistant have already started to do the basics at Carrington (and the other teams do not have more) he does not have to play international this season. That makes it easier.

Bayern was in a similar situation when he took over in 2009/10 - at the end of this season Bayern was German Champion, Cup winner and the first time in years in the CL final. Robben, who failed at Madrid the season before, Müller who was newly discovered and Schweinsteiger, who he gave a new job in central midfield (before that he was a mediocre winger) had great tournaments in South Africa.

The difference being my friend, is Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, and Everton. The PL is a very tough league to win now. And at least 3 of hose teams have better players/squads than United.

I appreciate what you're saying, but do you really expect us to believe that Van Gall for all his success and failures, with a weaker team/squad, and his 1st season in the PL, etc, will win the title? Yes, United have a very good chance of finishing in the top 4, but as for the title, not this season.

I know - the EPL is the strongest league in the world with the best players... Upps, I guess I got something wrong. Where were the EPL stars in the World Cup or in the last Champions League - apart from Chelsea who has a different tactical approach...

Van Gaal is about team and not superstars - and about system. And even if some of his players have not had their best year in the last season - that does not mean much.

Bayern in that year did not win only the league - they nearly won the CL. With a very young team. With a 33-year-old Ivica Olic and a 19-year-old Thomas Müller. With a 20-year-old Badstuber. And a 17-year-old Alaba playing in the semi finals.

Are Rooney, Mata and Van Persie not superstars? Why have they apparently been trying to sign Vidal and Hummels? Why are they apparently pondering a bid for Di Maria? There's even talk of Cavani though I'm not sure I buy that rumour. I think Van Gaal realises the Premier League may be a tougher nut than what he's used to, there's less room to slip up because it isn't a 2-team league, anyone can beat you on any day and there will be many challengers for the title.

Also, he isn't unique in being a coach good at building a team with a system. City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea (though theirs still seems something of a work in progress that needed certain players) also have well functioning systems. Pochettino is also good at this and has the Spurs job now.

Pellegrini is renowned for putting together a good 'system' team (Villarreal, Malaga) and won a double last season in his first year, despite many of his best players being injured for a big chunk of the year. Let's see if Van Gaal wins a double even with not having the extra priority of European football that Pellegrini did.

Ummmm... Zabaleta,, Aguero, DeMichealas, özil, Mertesacker and Podolski... I think these guys are EPL Stars, not bad, six in the World Cup final.

based on the friendlies so far, looks like it will be a quadruple.

Manchester United's security boss Riyaz Patel is exposed as a thief:

Source: Scum

This will be the same Riyaz Patel who stole 26,000 pounds from his brothers post office and was sentenced to 100 hours community service as well as paying 11,500 pounds compensation.

He will fit in well at that place.

Just love the way Maldeika talks... sounds just like the classic Malaysian plastic, quoting a load of Talksport soundbites and Sun back page headlines and formulating them into some kind of paragraph.

The difference is United don't have a Robben, Muller or Schweinsteiger playing out of position or anywhere else. And unlike Ferguson he isn't going to be lucky enough to have 4 or 5 players coming through who are good enough to compete at this level. He will have to spend and already has.

As for an antidote against his style, if he persists with 3 at the back, they will get buried.
