I'm leaning more towards he's not allowed in states, if he's had a criminal record maybe?

A year ago he was sweating on a charge of assault when he (allegedly) attacked a neighbour with a bottle. The case was dropped in February when he reached a 'settlement' with his accusers who are believed to have signed a confidentiality agreement not to speak about the case.

All as fully above board as you'd expect from anyone connected with the rags.

The Di Maria flight thing is as bad as Sterling's "sickie".

It would have made no sense for him to fly out to join up with United if a deal is being done in next few days. Non story made big.

They really ought to stop going on about this crappy "professionalism", "loyalty" shite that they keep doing. "They" are the media, some fans presumably, mainly the brainwashed by media.

It's very boring.

The passport issues is a funny one. I find it somewhat hard to believe the club travel department are so inept as to have failed to sort out a visa, so what they presumably mean is that he did something daft like leaving it at home. Which for most people on a work trip would go down like a cup of sick with the employer.
I've spoken with a few players over the years and players passports are held by the club (unless on international duty) as clubs will be sending them off or driving them down to various embassies to get travel visas etc for Euro trips / international games.
