Perhaps a bit too early to be talking of a decline, but I said to a rag a few weeks ago that they'd be insane to take him back at this stage (or more likely in 12 months). The figures involved for a soon-to-be 31 year old would be astronomical and while he'd help them secure 4th, I don't think he alone would improve that team enough for them to become title challengers. They have far more pressing concerns than the need to secure a "galactico" but long may this weird fascination of theirs continue. The one thing that would really damage Utd now which most Utd fans dream of happening is if Ronaldo went to Utd. Unlikely to happen I know.
I watched the two La Liga games yesterday: Barcelona has a real dogfight to beat Athletic Bilbao away 1-0. Messi was brilliant at times, but they did not control the game like they usually do, and Real Madrid were held 0-0 at Sporting Gijon. In the last 30 minutes Real Madrid started to really dominate but Ronaldo was really ineffective. It struck me that if Bale, James etc could play in their usual roles, and Real Madrid had a different forward to Ronaldo they'd have won that game comfortably. I am sure he will continue to score a lot of goals at Real Madrid as he is the centre-piece of their team around which their play revolves and they are still a dominant team, but his crown is definitely slipping and in my book they'd be better off selling him. They must know that now. If Utd really are firing out huge bids for Galatico players then don't rule this out. It's probably 12 months too early, but this is a player who in my opinion is now inhibiting Real Madrid.
if he went to Utd it would financially stretch Utd and offer nowhere near as much as he has given Real Madrid in former years.
It's only one game, but watch out for a decline in Real Madrid this season
I thought Ronaldo struggled to make an impact against the big teams last season eg Champions League games against Juve whilst Real Madrid's dominance against weaker teams allowed him to plunder goals against cannon-fodder, but it was noticeable yesterday that he struggled to have much influence against a team that Real Madrid would have been expected to beat. Only 1 game I know, but I thought he was going last season.Perhaps a bit too early to be talking of a decline, but I said to a rag a few weeks ago that they'd be insane to take him back at this stage (or more likely in 12 months).
