Thought that was an excellent post from Damocles.

The one caveat I would add is that it isn't necessarily about who the better player is but who suits the system. If we are to play four attacking players and Yaya, then the other midfielder has to have stamina to cover for when he goes on one of his runs, which really rules out carrick and schweinsteiger. I would say Fernandinho is better than Schneiderlin, so really I wouldn't want any of their midfield, at least for our first eleven.

Conversely, their formation and the way they play suits carrick and schweinsteiger and they offer more to United than our midfield would.

When we play them though, that is the one area we need to be wary off as the numbers can overload our midfield if we don't set up right.

Yaya could easily do any role that Carrick or Bastian play though....

Can't believe there is even a debate on this thread. No one could question the quality of Schweinsteiger in his day but the guy seems to have lost a lot of mobility from what I can see. It seems injuries have taken their toll.

There is absolutely no way on gods earth that Bayern would sell Schweinsteiger in his pomp. Zero. They sold him because he is no longer good enough to play with the intensity that Bayern and in particular Gaurdiola demands.

Carrick, tidy player but nothing more, 34, but looks in better shape than Schweinsteiger ironically. Just tells you that you can't change your DNA.

But enough of the subjective stuff just look at performances. Turgid in the first half against the dippers and effectively beat them from a dodgy free kick and soft penalty, beaten by Seansea the previous week in their first proper test and absolutely dire against Newcastle. It's boring predictable stuff.

At best, to even consider that their midfield competes with ours is wishful thinking, at worst, it's completely delusional.

Totally agree with this.

united will fluke it into the top four, largely down to the fact that spurs and Liverpool are so shocking. Still expect Chelsea to pick it up at some point. united will also probably fluke a couple of games against better teams as the law of averages usually works out like that

They are utter pants though, and rightly got slated for the style and the way they played in the first half in the battle of the shit at the weekend. Hopefully turtle gets a longer deal or better yet they give it to the welsh wife shagger - that would be a barrel of laughs

Did you see schweinsteiger for Germany against the jocks?
Totally different player. Had a spring in his step, full of energy, looked mobile.
Compare that to him playing for the twabs and he looks sluggish, looks like he doesn't know his correct position, seems to be out of sync with the rest of the team.
The difference was startling.

against who.

Without sounding like I've got my red tinted specs on, and I'm being totally honest here. I have watched Schweinsteiger this season more than any other player, and he has controlled the midfield in every single game. People are saying that he's not mobile and he's finished, but yet there he is covering every blade of grass, always available for a pass, getting tackles in and jumping for every header. You may say that he will struggle to keep that up for an entire season, but so far he's been superb. We used to get over-run in midfield by mid-table sides, but it stopped dead as soon as he pulled on a shirt. I'm not saying that he's the German Messi, but he is quality.

No, I don't make a habit of watching either the Germans or the jocks.

At a push, I might look decent against the jocks

I would hazard that your perception is skewed by the fact that you have been watching absolute dog sh*t in your midfield for the last 2/3 years. I don't think even I would deny that Schweinsteiger is an improvement.

The 'result' against the Scouse covered up for the fact that for the 3rd game running you created very little in open play.

Yeah he looks alright to be fair but come January he will be ready for the Knackers Yard

He's an improvement on what you had there last season in terms of ability, but both he and Carrick are going to struggle badly now that the midweek games have begun.

Did he play at swansea?

Already seeing that Martial described as 'World class' and being compared to Henry. What happenend to their last world class young striker Macheda?

Again, you've "controlled" the midfield with soft, idle possession. You hold onto the ball, but create absolutely nothing from the midfield. The opposition are happy to let you have the ball in the centre, because as soon as you move out possession generally turns over.

In the first four games your only goals came from an own goal and a deflection. Then you beat a crap Liverpool team with a dodgy free kick, a daft pen (to concede) and a goal from the wonderkid Mach.. Janu... Martial (Which just like Ricky Villa's goal, was more bad defending that good skill).
