They won't be. Why would they? The rewards are marginal compared to the outlay required to achieve that. It's different for us as we don't have the global profile they do. At least not yet. We need to achieve that success but they don't.

I'm guessing that even if we ever came close to matching their global profile, our owner would still want us to achieve success on the pitch rather than just be content with CL qualification as the difference between the Sheikh and the Glazers/FSG/Kroenke is that he is clearly a football fan that wants to see the club be successful both on the pitch and as a business. The others aren't particularly arsed about winning trophies in the way the Sheikh is. Sure, they'll take a title win if it comes their way but they won't be totally yearning for it. It's that kind of attitude that pisses off genuine fans of all clubs - run the club as a business by all means but show some ambition with it too. You see it further down the league as well with the likes of Ashley at Newcastle, plus it seems to be the case at Spurs too.

Funny as this is (and it is fucking funny) it doesn't top the fake lawyers farce surrounding the failed Herrera transfer which doesn't get mentioned enough IMO.

They have form for this - it's becoming an annual thing. A transfer deadline tradition even.

7 years ago, they panicked so much over us getting Berbatov that they paid £5M over the odds for him.
This time, they've paid nearly 50M euro's over the odds for an unknown black gangley French teenager who might become the next Thierry Henri - but just as likely, he could be their next David Bellion - 24 games and 4 goals in 3 seasons, after having been tapped-up to leave Sunderland to join them. (And that's after scoring precisely 1 goal for them in 2 years, if Wikipedia is accurate.)
Form for tapping up and paying over the odds - for shite - as well

It would seem to me that the Rags will only spend just enough to keep their income flowing, which really means qualifying for the Champions League, and nothing more. I think they see it as financially sub-optimal to invest more and finish higher in the table. The Glazer's do not care about football, less about winning titles. They just want to keep their cash cow going so they can continue to milk it. I am sure they would not mind winning a title here and there, but only if it happens without having to do anything for it. I am also thinking that they might not be unhappy about the circus surrounding their club. In terms of advertisement and media space they certainly do not seem to get less than when the club was better run, do they? Media presence is everything to keep the brand going, to keep the income flowing.
Personally I can see them going completely down the pan this season. Their team looks pretty average. Schneiderlin is a reasonable player but he looks like the only new signing that improved them. Schweinsteiger looks unfit and past it. I think he is an injury waiting to happen. Their only striker looks unfit, disinterested and past it. Their defence does not look to bad, but also not very good. The keeper is just not very good. Add to that the general unhappiness about TT, the lack of real game plan (there is no real philosofee, is there?) and the champions league mid week games which will wear them out. Unless things change quite radically I don't see them making top 4.
Here's hoping anyway ...

Not had time to read the whole thread, but have the caf put this Martial lad in the top 3 players in the world yet?

So, can't de Gay simply buy out the rest of his contract, become a free agent and play for who the fuck he wants from January?

not to sure, i don't think a Brittish player has ever done this 'i don't mean the Bosman' the other ruling whatever its called, the best thing he can do is what Tevez did simply go AWOL and take a knock from his wage packet then come Jan offer the make the peace with united and sit 4 months out and stuff them on a free
end of the day whatever his value is say 30 mil united wont be seeing a penny cos he's not going to sign a new contract

They really do love to big everything up at that club from top to bottom. It seems like a constant barrage of propaganda from all sides. I have been looking at articles, Twitter, replieds to newspaper articles and the aggression, the arrogance from complete gobshites is staggering. Is there any city with two clubs in it who's supporters are as different as U.S. and them? we really are chalk and cheese.

Probably only Olymiacos and Panathinaikos come close.

Panathinaikos have always been known as the club of high society in Athens whereas Olympiacos are seen as the working class team of the people. Much like us and that rat-infested mob from the Swamp.

They've started inventing payment schemes in the Martial thread to pretend it's actually a steal. It's getting pretty funny. Now all we need is the Monaco chairman to come out and piss on their chips
