I take it dom Mc guiness is a rag?
Trying to say it's a positive thing that de gea is staying and could be the hero against Liverpool .

Absolutely he is
I heard him for the first time on Talksport the other week and pointed out what he had said re VanGaal (a genius, works the press briliiantly, jovial character) and then Sterling (he was soooooo disappointed that he hit the ground running with us)
One of our more esteemed posters put me right on him

Very serious. Surely as a blue you'd rather the rags without De Gea than with him? He's their best player by miles.

Surely you're jesting. It's a PR disaster and they could end up losing him for nothing, he may even go on strike, he certainly won't be motivated. This is as far from "playing a blinder" you could get. It shows they are being run not just by rank amateurs, but utter fucking buffoons.

Don't see why my thread about bigger loser had to be joined with this one. It was not only Rags related.

Funny as this is (and it is fucking funny) it doesn't top the fake lawyers farce surrounding the failed Herrera transfer which doesn't get mentioned enough IMO.

They have form for this - it's becoming an annual thing. A transfer deadline tradition even.

But not from a starting position of 7th. They were willing to spend shitloads to get back into the Champions League. It'll be interesting to see if they're willing to spend again to make the next step from 4th to 1st.

They won't be. Why would they? The rewards are marginal compared to the outlay required to achieve that. It's different for us as we don't have the global profile they do. At least not yet. We need to achieve that success but they don't.

Although Liverpool have shown how quickly that global profile can fade away. So owners who intend to be there for the long term need to maximise that through success as well as just riding the gravy train. Good old Glazers.

There’s lots of panic over there but it feels like panic because they haven’t got a big name / marquee singing.

What seems to be missing is an appreciation of just how thin the squad has become this summer. And I mean thin in terms of numbers not just quality. They have 1 striker, a decent number of midfielders then a paper thin defence. 1 left back, 1 right back cover is via Rojo and Valencia both out of position, CBs from; Blind, Smaling, Jones, Rojo!

They can put out a decent first 11 but injuries could knock them massively this year! Especially if those that are called upon have seen their arse i.e. Rojo, Young, Valencia, Herrera (these players seem to be in the cold).

Their squad makes harrowing reading if you are a rag, this was the season they were supposed to start challenging again , if you benchmark them against the best squad in the country , they are no-where near challenging and will need another influx of major buys over the next few windows

Without Blue tinted specs

Hart > Romero (De Gea wont play for them again)
Caballero > Sam Johnstone (?)

Zabaletta > Darmian
Sagna > Valencia

Clichy = Shaw
Kolarov > do they have a backup left back , Blind?

Kompany > Smalling
Otamendi > Blind
Mangla > Jones
Demichelis > Mcnair (?)

Fernandinho = Schneiderlin (trying my best to give them something !)
Yaya > Shweinsteiger
Delph < Carrrick (if he's not past it this season!)
Fernando < Herrera

Silva >>>>>>>>> Mata
De Bruyne > Depay
Sterling >>>> Young
Nasri > Who else have they got?
Navas > no sorry I'm out...

Aguero >>>>>>>>>>>> Rooney
Bony >>>>>> Martial
Ihenacho >>> Wilson?

So I may that City have 19 players better or equal , Rags 3.
