Isnt Gill supposed to be impartial considering the role he has ?

Manchester City will never be as big as United in Asia and certain markets across the globe.

That’s according to former United chief executive David Gill, who was speaking during an event to celebrate 500 years of Manchester Grammar School.

When asked about the recent rise of City, Gill said: “I’m not being arrogant here but it (Manchester City) will never be as big as Manchester United in Asia and certain markets.

“Look at Liverpool, the club haven’t won the league for so many years, but they are very popular in Asia.

"The big teams with history and heritage, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Real Madrid, have that.”

I'll tell you what, United and Liverpool can keep their "biggest sides in Asia" trophies, and I'll settle for City just winning Premier League titles. Do people like Gill think your average football fan gives a shit how well supported their team is half way around the World? Fans want good players, and to win. City have that. Liverpool don't. United, currently, don't either. Everything else is degrees of who gives a fuck.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

On the Shaw issue I've had that injury and it ain't nice (particularly as the twat that did it to me - meant it) but the access to the finest surgeons and rehab physiotherapy will stand him in good stead to make a full recovery provided there's no nerve damage. I doubt it'll cost him his job or house and lifestyle like us poor mortals. Best wishes to him on his recovery. LOL at the poster who thinks he might be out for the season. It'll be 12 months before he looks at 1st team action imo. We'll see though.
On Gill "Never" is indeed a very long time. Be interesting to see if we're any closer to them in turnover stakes come financial year end. They've had a big fillip by the Adidas deal and how are we measuring "as big as" these days, facebook likes? (alleged number of fans), Cash turnover, Corporate Income, Match-day Income, Website hits? Its all a bit of a farce really isn't it Mr Gill. Oh and your big teams heritage and history you can't replace! Well of course you can't replace it but it can be superseded. Lets see United win fuck all for 35 years and then see where there 650 million Asian fans are? I think I can guess. Oh and how do you feel about your FFP plan now that it's failed to achieve it's objective. We all know the answer over here now you've completely capitulated to those whining bent Italian fuckers.I'm looking forward to the EEC ruling hammering the final nail in it's coffin in the near future. You must have so enjoyed your successors exploits in the transfer market this summer I doubt you had one good nights sleep under your family mans duvet. But don't worry your BACS payment from the Cayman Islands every month is safe for now. But can I just say fuck you and the horse you rode in on you one eyed twat!

As many have already said, as much as we have a long standing hatred of all things Utd, wouldn't wish that injury on any player and hope he makes a full and speedy recovery. He was starting to have some positive impact for them this season. Will be a big loss for them.

How can you feel so proud and smug because someone in Asia is wearing a united top which was most probably made in some sweatshop? I don't get it. They aint gonna win you nothin. The ****'s have stagnated through sheer arrogance.

Gary James the City tour guide!! Was Gary James on the Stretford End in the 70's or 80's? Or the away end at Anfield as darts rained down, or being baton charged by Liverpool supporting coppers. You don't need to take my word or Gary James word for it. Just ask any United fan over the age of 45. This non rivalry nonsense has been created and manufactured to fit into your own narrative, but none of you were actually there, and I don't even know why it's an issue all of a sudden. You want me to say that City have always been the ones that I fought with and hated, but it isn't true.

When I was a kid I could tell you every City fan who lived on my street or in my year at school. It was never violent or ugly. City scouts used to watch us playing matches on fog lane, I even attended the Mark Lillis soccer school in the summer once, and City players used to come to our school and we were always respectful to them. Paul Simpson walked his dog on Heaton Mersey common and Alex Williams lived in that 70's estate behind the Dog and Partridge on Didsbury road. We used to go to functions at the social club at Maine road. City were always part of where we grew up, as were United, but it was always a different type of rivalry. It didn't matter what feats United achieved currently or in the past, there was always a Blue in the corner of pub who would say "stuffy goal that by Cantona. He was trying to cross it...ee's not fit to lace Colin Bells boots."

It wasn't an evil or deeply hateful relationship, it was always good banter. It still survives to this day, sometimes on these pages. Now you can read what you want in a book and believe that, but I know what I saw with my own eyes and heard with my own ears.

You're talking shite pal. I don't know how old you are but I'm 65 and can assure you that the rags' most intense rivalry was always with City and vice versa. During the 60s and even 70s I never knew a rag who gave a flying fuck about Liverpool. They and the rags were simply not really rivals and as for GPC's manufactured bollocks about Liverpool being your derby that pile of shite was invented by him and him alone.

I can remember being with my dad at the swamp as a 9 year old (1959-60) wearing my City scarf and being spat at by grown up rag scum. I can also remember being there in 1962-63 when City won 3-2 with a late goal but missed it because the rags around us were so hostile my dad grabbed me and made a sharp exit. I can also remember being on the unsegregated Kippax in 1968-69 when the rags showered City fans with sharpened old pennies and one caught me an inch above my eye and blood was pissing out of my head.

As Stony said, the 70s and 80s could be horrific times for a travelling fan of any club anywhere. It certainly wasn't confined to OT or Anfield. I once got attacked at Newcastle after getting split up from my mates and having to find my own way back to the coach. I've seen a surgical scalpel being thrust at City fans at West Ham, a City fan getting a severe kicking on the terrace at Chelsea, my mate and I being chased down the street by a gang of 6 or 7 at Birmingham, Cardiff thugs infiltrating the City end at Ninian Park and kicking the shit out of the nearest City fan when they scored and so on and on. I've lost count of the number of games I went to where bricks and bottles were thrown. That was as common as dog shit in those days, not specific to two fixtures a season.

Finally, who can forget the 2011 semi final when rag scum attacked families and particularly City dads with a kiddie in tow. In my 57 years of match going support of City I can tell you that many of your fans have ALWAYS been scum and remain so to this day.

Hopefully Shaw makes a full recovery, returns to form and gets himself a move to a decent club.

Very good Bert. Think it'll be a long road back for the lad, and a big loss to the rags. Best of luck to him.

Whilst obviously not wishing an injury like that on anyone, I reckon I could make an exception for martin buchan and roy keane.
