United Thread 2015/16

United have pretty much said "goodbye" to the title this year after signing Martial. Don't get me wrong, this kid has good potential but for this season, they needed a proven star.

Apparently, Anthony Martial has " Top player VIBE" according to some poster on sad cafe, well for 36-58 million pounds that's just incredible. I think arrogance has been replaced by fear and reality over there cos they are frantically clutching a straws, any straws and there are not enough straws to go around! What goes around comes around 'n all that, it's just funny

Chelsea sold him for £18m (indicates to me that he even then was still rated highly)

Chelsea sold Namanja Matic only to have to buy him back a few years later and now widely regarded as the best holding midfielder in the league

Anthony Martial - No one (you probably included had ever heard of this young lad)
He's 19 its a big ask for any 19yo no matter how talented to carry a team supposedly challenging for honours
He has no track record to even suggest he is worth what Wolfsburg paid for De Bruyne 18 months ago

I think had the rags signed this lad for 10m, on top of having a top class striker already at the club (along the lines of an Aguero, not an out of form over the hill Rooney), had his name been connected to the club all summer after a long chase, then you could maybe congratulate the rags on forward planning. The reality is that none of the aformentioned things are true and this can only be described as a complete panic buy.

I agree, but I'm not having it that you guys are the benchmark for transfer success. Your strategy is the same as always, bid more than everyone else. Although in many cases there wasn't anyone else. Look at Mangala 31m and Fernandinho 34m. There wasn't a queue of top clubs waiting to sign them.

Time for a Damo.

This is a rather pedantic argument

No, it's just stupid, devoid of facts, any semblance of neutrality or rational thought.

but your Sterling deal WAS £49m.

No, it wasn't.

It was probably more with add ons, like most deals are these days.

Well, it would have been, if the deal had been for £49m, which it wasn't.

The reason why this raised so many eyebrows was because he is 20 years old, has only had one stand out season for Liverpool and no other clubs were bidding for him.

The reason there are so many raised eyebrows, is because the established status quo couldn't believe a player would show enough ambition to fuck off the side in 5th, who were last relevant before I was born, for a side who has won more trophies in the past 4 years than anyone else, and is extremely relevant. If their eyebrows were raised at that for a 20 year old, then they must currently be orbiting Saturn after the deal for the 19 year old "wonder kid", who is only defined as such, because everyone is wondering why he is suddenly worth 3 times what he was valued 7 weeks ago, despite achieving the square root of sod all in the intervening period.

Plus, no other clubs bid for him because we have a professional scouting and negotiation team that turned his head early on, and we priced our rivals out of the morning at stage 1 so they couldn't compete. It's called good business, why have a bidding war driving the price up when you can afford not to? Ed Woodward must have noticed and tried the same, the difference is we bought a Lamborghini for the price of a Ferrari, you bought a Fiat Punto for the price of a space shuttle.

I'm not saying that the £36m for Martial was a masterstroke either.

Well, I certainly don't think Rags up and down the country will be stroking anything with this signing, so you're right there.

Kevin De Bruyne signed for City because you offered 25 million more that Bayern Munich wanted to pay.

Unfounded, unlike the fact that Tottenham were offered Martial for significantly less than you ended up paying.

104 million could buy you the entire Swansea starting line up 3 times, or 17 Vincent Kompany's.

£98 million. The rest is irrelevant, it could also buy your arsehole, doesn't mean we want it.

I don't think you covered yourselves in any glory either.

Well that's ok, because this point has no factual basis or merit. Besides, we don't give a fuck what you think, we just enjoy annihilating you.

Very funny to see them trying to justify that Martial story. Deluded. Majority isn`t smart enough to ask why he wasn`t sign earlier as he was no panic buy..

Look at whatshisname. 58m and there wasn't a queue of clubs, let alone top clubs, to sign him either

Hahaha the golden boy! Did he get a badge and a certificate for that??? You are all failing to acknowledge that Sterling did nothing last season, and no other clubs came in for him. The fee you paid was ridiculous. De Bruyne has had one decent season in the Bundesliga, but never made the grade in the PL for Chelsea. They sold him for £18m in 2014. And his one inspired season occurred when Bayern's only threat (Dortmund) decided to have a sabbatical. Lets see how he fares in his second attempt at the PL.

Never heard of a club deciding to have a sabbatical before, new one on me. I just thought they weren't as good or as well run as Wolfsburg were, but that's just me.

Yes that banner, Ferguscum never ever condemned it but as soon as we put up the Tevez "Welcome to Manchester" billboard he went absolutely ballistic the hypercritical old tosspot.
Yes, never forget they took it down for the Munich anniversary game ''as a mark of respect'' (ie they wanted us Blues to respect the anniversary) but were happy to put it back up the following week - a mark of disrespect in my eyes......

I think United have done well to create a relatively solid base in defense and midfield. I presume they'll sort out the GK situation somehow. They lack creativity though and will struggle to score against any decent defense. I think Depay and Martial are decent forward players but is the standard of defenders and GKs in the Premiership at a level that will cope with them relatively easily? I think so and therefore I think they'll only have the odd goal here and there.

VanGaal is pragmatic in terms of knowing his limitations and playing to them. If the attack doesn't ignite soon he'll grind out results with hoofball, ricochets and OGs. It will be bland but the only way for them not to make top 4 is for someone to be less shit than them.

Can Spurs or Liverpool capitalize? Probably not. Or maybe a dark horse like Everton, Palace or Swansea. Might be a better hope. Most likely no matter how shit United are they'll make it.

In the meantime though VanGaal's tenure will be hilarious with all sorts of commotions in plain sight and in reported stories.

Lets enjoy laughing at them!!! :-)
