Reminds me of this gem from Anelka;

“My career at Arsenal was going from strength to strength until the day I crossed Vieira, who was better known in the Arsenal dressing room as ‘Le Long.’ I was playing against Fulham at Highbury and I remember receiving a ball from Bergkamp, then rounding the keeper with ease and, with the goal wide open, somehow managing to screw the ball wide at the last minute. It only happened because the sun was in my eyes. It wasn’t my fault! Anyway Vieira gave me a glare and I knew I was in trouble, afterwards in the showers he tore into me and I just snapped, I knew I shouldn’t have, but I called him a ‘lanky limbed boombaclart.’

At first he just stared at me with his hollow eyes. Then…..WHAM!

Just like that he slapped me across the face with his penis. Just once. But it knocked me back a few steps. It was like being struck by a wet kipper. No one could believe what they saw! Can you imagine how embarrassing it is to be smacked across the face with a 14″ pork sword in front of your team mates? It was the worst moment of my life. No one said anything for what seemed like an eternity, the silence was only broken when Ashley Cole asked “Is it my turn?” It was then I knew I had to leave. When Wenger found out what he’d done he merely high fived him and shouted “And that’s why he’s the captain. POW! Look at that thing!”

now that's funny.

What he means is that they've been used to teams cowering before their greatness and lubing up before the match has even kicked off. They're not any more and they don't have a clue what to do about it.

exactly.
wasn,t so long ago that mick mcarthy sent a reserve wolves side to utd for a premiership game,stating that he knew he couldn,t win so he might as well rest his best players for matches they had a chance in....Nobody is saying that now u red muppets.deal with it.

Roy Keane bemoaning Young's diving antics saying that's not the United way. YCNMIU. His team mates and Taggert at Man U won countless games through nefarious tactics and referees approval. Comes the golden boy now. Fuck off Roy. Man U for as long as I have watched them, have always been cheating, dirty bastards.

More manly to cripple someone, Roy?

In the same way that buying players for mega bucks has never been the united way.

Living over here surrounded by the pond life, I would say that, certainly among the older ones, religion did play a part in their choice of team to follow. Also, the fact that the vermin have always had Irish players helped. This goes back to at least the post war period when Johnny (Jackie) Carey was one of their star players at the time. And of course, the Munich air disaster drew in fans from all over the world, Ireland included. Wasn't one of the victims Irish, IIRC Liam Whelan)? Then the next generation latched on to the Best/Law/Charlton side as they were perceived as "glamorous". That'd be the dad's and grandads of the modern day Irish Rag. Those modern ones are following the vermin because
A. Their dads did. And
B. The fact that, up to recently, they were hugely successful did undoubtedly attract the fairweather fan.

Make no mistake about it, the rags have a vice like grip over here. Take it from me, the 90s and 00s were not a nice time to be a blue over here.

As a Catholic myself coming from a completely catholic background ( housing estate,school,etc ) during my early days as a city supporter ( 1967-68 season ) most of the kids of my age were celtic supporters closely followed by rag bastards,i cant ever remember teams being supportrd for religious reasons ( except of course celtic,rangers ) as far as the filth supporters that i knew off , the big reason for their support was that drunken **** best followed by their dads passing on the Munich disaster story.In the 70's the fuckers pretty much kept their lice infested heads down,but as jim states during their successful years this place was hell on earth for city fans.You had to be made of strong stuff to be a blue in ragland in the bad old days,but when the good days returned by god it was and remains so sweet.I work in a building with 500 people and i am the only city fan in it,that will give you some idea how infested we are with scum sucking cunts over here,but hear this......i know of only one other city fan within 20 miles of me,the both of us over the last few seasons have been to dozens and dozens of games including cup finals at Wembley,but not one scum sucker in that filth infested building that i work in has EVER been to a game at old toilet."Your honour i rest my case for the prosecution"

It can be dispiriting,even in these halcyon times, to be the only blue in an ocean of vermin. You just have to keep your chin up, and not hide away.
