Fuck me they're morphing into the scousers with every passing day.
Crisis ??
What fucking crisis. They want to slip down a couple of divisions and then they'll see what a crisis is.
Soft spoilt bastard fans showing their true colours but it doesn't surprise me, the most horrible set of mouthy twats I've ever had the displeasure of meeting.

My flabber has never been so gasted....

The wilderness years remembered...

"For those of us whose only taste of success for over 20 years was the odd FA Cup, the current situation at United is a chilling reminder of where were for year after year. What is disappointing is the number of people who don't want to watch the games anymore or want to give up their season ticket, even amongst the older supporters.

I wonder whether these are the glory hunters which we heard so much about during the many years of success under SAF, now that times are fallow it's not so much fun, or so easy, to support United.

Spare a thought for a little boy who idolised Charlton & Best, only to see his beloved United relegated a few years later. I always said at the time that we should never have been in the 2nd Division, we bounced straight back up as Champions.

The utter devastation of the 1976 FA Cup Final I will never forget, I was completely crushed.

I was never a match goer, I wasn't allowed, there was far too much violence on the terraces back in the 70s and 80s, my Dad would never take me into that sort of situation. United was still in my heart though, from before I can remember. I used to watch as many matches as were available on TV, or listen on the radio.

You can't even begin to imagine what winning my first title as a United supporter meant, finally the wilderness years were over and you know the rest from there.

I can not see it ever getting as dark as that again, there is too much money involved, but at the same time another 20 years of disappointment is not something I am particularly looking forward to.

Remember The Wilderness Years".

They feel used and abused over at the Cafe.....

"its like a husband buying his wife off with shitty presents to keep her nose out of what he really gets up to and distract her from what a lousy man he is."

"I just have such a hatred and lack of respect for the club right now."

"There's a lot of romantic idealism that it was better."

"we talk a lot about our history but then we only seem to remember the last 20 years or so"

"it's the awful spiritless displays I can't stomach."

"It looks like I'll be an old man before we win the league again.....At least I'll have the Fergie years to look back on in my dotage." :(

"At least we've got 40 points. Only relegation is the level left we can sink lower to. That's quite a downfall."

" The difference in attitude is general alienation from the modern United. Fergie was the link with the old days when United was still primarily a football club. Now he's gone, you're just left with a ultra-commercial money making machine."

Poor sad cash cows :-)

The "United Way" is just another way for them to make themselves out to be better than everyone else.

It was not enough for the fans and media hangers-on of the self-proclaimed biggest/most famous/most successful/best football playing/best managed/most stable/richest etc. etc club in the World to be winning more trophies more regularly than anyone else in English football for most of the premier league era. It wasn't enough to have all those other claims to fame. It wasn't enough to belittle the supporters of other less successful clubs, or to be able to be insufferably arrogant about their success.

They had to have something bigger than just such worldly boasts, like a religion whereby one group seeks to claim superiority over the rest of the human race by following the one and only true path of the righteous. The results and success prove that they were the chosen people didn't they? Their God was better than the rest because he bestowed such munificence on them - case proved and closed!

But now the results and football is poor that means they have been deserted by the higher power and causes them to question their previous beliefs, which is a source of great distress because it is heresy to question the greatness and superiority of their cause. Pity the poor sheep!

Its a mythical way of playing and behaving only witnessed by Unicorns and Mermaids but like all myths has been passed on by word of mouth down the years and embellished beyond any recognition.

Its based on a manager ( Busby) who had a bunch containing some exceptional young players ( the babes ) who's careers were cut short tragically (Munich ) Ten years after that the same manager was still in charge when another team of relatively young players with one exceptional talent ( Best ) won the European Cup. In doing so they became the first English European cup winners.

There followed many lean years where they were just another football club with their ups and downs ( literally ) and some controversies. All this has been airbrushed from history.

Following that period a Scotsman who managed them - who after a rocky start - went on to bring them success and managed them for 25+ years during which period he fell lucky with a bunch of youth players that were already at the club when he came, the club were the richest and were able to hoover up talent and bully the game and match officials. This ended abruptly with the exit of that Scotsman.

The Ushited Way myth comes from the period between the 68 European triumph to the success of the Scotsman. That period as I have said has been airbrushed and instead is filled in with tales of unmitigated success during which period the club never sacked a manager and played an exciting blend of attacking football with swashbuckling wingers and teams made up entirely of lads who were produced by their youth system ( the Crass of 92 )

As has been said before in this thread - if you get enough people - especially football journalists and celebrity fans - to repeat this myth eventually it is seen as the truth and so we come to the stage we are today.

Its like Carlo Sartori and Dave Sexton never even existed.....
