Ironically, last night's shambles somehow serves only to glorify United by comparison. Henry Winter is going on an on about how a "Great club" with a "great tradition", an "institution" with a "glorious history" is being betrayed by LvG and his crew, in front of greats like Charlton and Giggs.

Their past achievements have somehow been magnified into an earthly paradise of non-stop heroism, genius and all-round lovable, untarnished perfection. A world that never was.

Spot on.

It happens to companies and sometimes to individuals, they begin to believe their own mythology. When that happens they cannot move on, whatever they do is a quick fix to return to their "former glory" but their former glory, the extent of it and its origins have been so exaggerated and distorted they end up chasing a lie and with each failure their fans scream at them to "do something, do something! We're Manchester United!"

So they splurge some money on a quick fix, get an over the hill manager with a CV full of past glories and it doesn't work, so they're frozen in to paralysis. Then they'll panic and try another quick fix and that won't work and the fans will scream yet again..."We're Manchester United!"

It's classic, obvious as the nose on your face, but they simply lack the wherewithal to solve it, because they simply cannot acknowledge that much of their history is a lie and that the people at the top of the club tasked with solving this problem are the problem.

I admit I don't particularly like the turtle, but the scum fans need to take a reality check, he's not their only problem, they really need to take a look at what's happened, their most successful manager (hate him or not) has gone, he WAS united, but now no manager would be able to do anything with that squad, they're mediocre at best and that's not LVG's fault and if they think Maureen will come in and do any better, well good luck with that cos he had a better, settled squad at Chelsea and we saw how he struggled this season. I see this being a long term struggle for them and I am enjoying it, but to REALLY REALLY enjoy it we need to buck our own ideas up a little and not just meander through waiting for Pep

I think:
De Gea, Johnstone (3rd GK), Darmian, Beaker, Rojo, Shaw,Valencia, Varela (ha), Schweinsteiger, Young, Januzaj, Shrek.

That does leave the defence a bit of a mess, but other than that Young and Shrek are the only two likely to play.

But Phil (the new Duncan Edwards )Jones being out injured surely helps the team ?

Hang on kinky - you are expecting Scum " supporters " to think logically ?

Plus , the mythology is being bolstered by the lickspittle subservient media which legitimises their ludicrous view( in their own eyes) but at the same time ,ironically, as big swifty pointed out, extends and increases the period of pain as reality clashes with myth.
Fun innit??!?

Hmm Darmian RB, Shaw & Rojo both LB. Varela young RB. None of the rest are defenders. We've had it much worse at the back concerning injuries to key players.... not that you'd know tho, we only hear how terrible they have it. Poor souls.

Jones is a CB (allegedly), Valencia is the other usual RB, isn't he?

Varela & Johnstone are obviously used to pad the figures out, and Januzaj hardly appears nowadays. But, having all 4 senior fullbacks out is going to debilitate a team.

At City, we've just been hit all in one place sometimes as well - last year in December, for once, when Milner was "centre forward". It's about making do and getting on with it. The injuries are being used to cover the fact that they have no drive at all in the middle of the pitch, an area not noticeably weakened by the injuries.

It's as though what is happening is akin to someone beating Stephen Hawking to death.
After all, this is the club with 'stature,' magnificent history,' and other such hysterical bollox, so how is this decline possible?
Well it's here, so all 659 million of them better get used to much more of it.
Get used to seeing that daft cockney **** Flying Pig HD, ranting on youtube every week, it'll be the only joy they're getting for a while.

A clear theme emerges from all the Utd fan sites on YouTube. No matter how raving or cool headed the fans are, they all resort, at one time or another, to repeating in various states of incredulity, the same thing over and over (and with some of them it is virtually the only thing they say).....

"We're Manchester Utd! We're Manchester United! We're Manchester Utd!"

.... and.... "We're fucking shiiiiiit; We're fucking shiiiiiit. We're fucking shit; we're fucking shit; we're fucking shiiiiit!!!!!".

I think you are actually being a touch generous to the turtle there. It isn't like he has just taken over and stumbled into this mess. He has had 4 transfer windows to do something about it! Now we just need to keep our fingers crossed that he has at least a couple more...

And then some!

I would hate for them to be in serious decline only for us to fuck it up again like we did in '74 when they were relegated

It was one of the best days of my life being at the swamp that day and thought that it was going to be our time, unfortunately we screwed it

We MUST kick on for the rest of this season and then really make giant strides when Pep comes in

I'm getting old and I want to see us at the top of the tree while I can

I agree. I think if Mourinho goes there and is given free reign on transfers, he'll build a competitive squad again. Not an exciting squad, but one that will be capable of parking the bus against anyone of consequence.

Compared to the RAG's our issues are nothing. A few wins and we are right back in the title picture. And Champion's League quarter finals is a certainly.

Pep in summer, we are stable.
