United thread 2017/18

So is there any truth to the stories in the tabloids about Mourinho? I'd take what the gutter press say as a pinch of salt but from time to time clubs do feed them stories so there may be something in it.

Even if the articles are pure speculation, what can't be doubted is that Mourinho is not coming across as particularly happy. If he wants out, there's no way he's walking of his own accord though and giving up the chance of a pay-off. He'll get himself sacked instead. I've said it before but I think he deliberately got himself sacked by Chelsea a couple of years ago because he was picking so many unnecessary fights right from the start of the season when it all kicked off over the Eva business, and it just carried on from there. I must admit that I didn't think it would come to that at United as he's coveted that job for years but perhaps he's realised that working there isn't all that and if he can do it to a club that he is clearly fond of like Chelsea, he can surely do it to United.

And yet the thing is that objectively, given where United have been the last few years in the PL, they ought to be thrilled right now. 2nd place has been way out of reach. The thing that's hurting them is City 8 points ahead.

Don't understand really. Surely they should be celebrating being in the top four for once. Definitely punching above their weight, well done Jose.

My guess is that Mourinho will stay at united until a decent national team comes up. The cushy life. Portugal preferred probably but anything that's high enough profile and allows him to swan about and chat shit to journalists.

I just don't see him wanting another club and I'd say he'll drag the united gig out as long as he has too to stay in the media spotlight. Pretty soon people will say that finishing 2nd is a great achievement given City's dominance. He'll be delighted again.

Can't see it personally, not enough attention for him. He'd have to go months without people fawning over him and I really don't think his ego could handle that. He'll meltdown at United, either this year or next, then probably go back to Italy if Inter or try and get the Real job back (pretty sure Perez and some of the Ultras still like him?)

The list of places for him to go is getting shorter and shorter though, his ego won't let him go to anyone below the very top, but the clubs at the very top don't want someone like him. It was one thing to have such a poisonous, attention seeking, negative football playing **** in charge when he was winning things, but now he's clearly damaged goods

His son let the cat out the bag blabbing about Paris.
Jose only has eyes for psg and they only have eyes for him.
It'd be refreshing for once a manager using utd as a stop gap rather than the other way round.
Things always even themselves out.

I do enjoy the irony of utd fans looking to call Guardiola a fraud who only takes cushy jobs. It would appear their manager who has been backed well by the owners at a big club is looking to get out because they are not dancing on air or at least making noises about it. In short he is epitomizing what they are trying to twist on Guardiola, that has a nice completeness to the schadenfreude on that

If he’s using us as a stopgap he’d win everything then ditch us for his next challenge, like he did at Inter.

There's more chance of him going straight to PSG with an absolute probability of winning the league and challenging for CL the moment he steps foot in Paris than having to compete here in a far more challenging league armed with nothing but a hoofball cannon and a tree.
