confused.com why was peg behaving like that when utd scored ...kicking the water bottles etc had he packed his bags and hoping to be sacked this morning than up pops A&E to score lol Still waiting for the press to start saying A&E should have told the ref he cheated and used his hand.....

Either he had lumped on big on the nil nil or he had smashed the mini bar in The Lowry and wanted to do a runner without paying for the Toblerone and Pringles he chomped on whilst watching I’m a celeb the other night.

Can't remember the exact figures (maybe one of the financial guys on here could compute) but in the year 1988/89 they spent approx 1.6x their turnover for that year. Or, in today's terms, circa £850m IN ONE YEAR.

That's before we talk about having their ground donated by a Scouse businessman (oh the irony) and their other benefactor who saved them from bankruptcy decades ago by settling their debts from his own pocket (Gibson??).

Hypocrites. And their genuine fans know it and it kills them.
They borrowed heavily to buy the first major stars of Fergie's reign. I've posted stuff on this before (and frequently on my Facebook and twitter). Utd were making losses in 1989 and borrowing to fund the likes of Bruce and while people can go on about creating sustainable businesses etc. had that 1990 FAC and the subsequent ECWC success not happened then their entire financial landscape could have been somewhat different. Their buys worked - good manager - unlike at so many other clubs in the 80s (including City). City, Wolves and others borrowed money to fund expensive transfers but their purchases/management got it wrong or failed and the clubs were then always struggling to catch up.

If UEFA had any sense of what was fair and good for football financially they'd be celebrating owners who invest in teams - ensuring they also invest in their stadia, facilities and communities - and punishing those in debt or those that borrow huge sums in the hope the transfers pay off.

Great goal by A & E. Wonderful. Really, really chuffed. They were awful by all accounts and that goal ensures PEG stays until at least February. Couldn’t be better.
