Several of them aren't. They can't drop to Europa for a CL place if they win so it's all or nothing for 6th. Great times.

Can't remember the exact figures (maybe one of the financial guys on here could compute) but in the year 1988/89 they spent approx 1.6x their turnover for that year. Or, in today's terms, circa £850m IN ONE YEAR.

The rags claimed an attendance of 72,000+ when there were acres of empty seats. That's what comes of forcing 55,000 season ticket holders at gunpoint to buy tickets for a game most of them have no interest in attending. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
