They are similar level of players, who could do a job as a solid but not great CB for a good team, but no more than that. For Cahill's price, that's decent, for Maguires, that's pretty terrible
I don’t think Maguire is a bad signing. Remind me of Cahill going to Chelsea and some turning their nose up but him proving himself over the years.
I think a CB addition is plugging one hole when they have 4 or 5 holes to fill.

It’s plugging a hole that doesn’t need filling, as they already have four or five and are in much greater need in several other positions, including both full-backs.
At least if they splurge their transfer kitty on another CB, it will mean less available to correct other areas of need.
