The world transfer fee for a single player was 8 million. If this "spree" included Feguson spending the same amount for 5 players to rebuild their failing squad, then I'm not sure how this doesn't illustrate that the comparison between them back then and them now is flawed.

Moreover, the spine of their 90s teams wasn't expensive.
Utd spent plenty boss........no getting away from it. They bought success.

You seem to have a right hard on for Man U...you clearly know a lot more than most blues anyway

That's why their fucking hypocrite's they had a world wide fan base between them and the dippers so more revenue to spend on better players etc, we are now killing football according to some with our resources as we can do what them cnunts did and are still doing.Thats why I love seeing the hurt in their filthy scummy faces and love the suffering their feeling may it long continue

Tears of bitterness. All over redcafe. If it isn't about the money,it's PED accusations.

When you're on the receiving end of that much salt, you know you're doing something right. They're completrly unhinged, as is their manager at the moment.

I've got a vague recollection that the spending in the first few years exceeded their turnover. Think @BlueAnorak worked it out.
Yeah spending exceeded turnover for 5 seasons. Quite a considerable amount for the time. It would be the equivalent of us spending £180m per season MORE than we have done for the last 3 seasons.
Back then it was only averaged about £7.5m a season and the debt vanished pretty quickly once the Premier League TV money gravy train began.

EDIT: figures now reflect that Utd could buy 2 top quality players or 3 very good players more than everyone else for a considerable time period.

I reckon it was down to the fact that Sanchez actually wanted to come to us. However and we can only speculate on this, but his agent probably played a huge part in this saga. They listened to the offer from united and took full advantage of their predicament and bent them over the barrel.

Something along the likes of 'you want to stop me going to City, then pay me this and I am yours, nothing less will do it'

United paid it and the rest is what we see unfolding

Thanks woodward for everything : ) because that unrest/problem could have been in our dressing room
Think this is 100% spot on

I think the Sanchez team made a ridiculous sum up thinking that if they ever paid it then it would be worth it because he would be set for life but didn't really think they would say yes.

United then agreed and that is why we see the player we do now. Heart not in it just taking in £2m a month. Nearly £100m over the life of the contract
