Cleverley was called up to the England squad after a 20 minutes sub apperance in the Community Shield. Zaha was called up before the ink of his signature was dry but was dropped like a hot rock when he went back to Palace on loan. Likewise Stan Laurel who should never, ever, be anywhere near an England team.

It is amazing how many plaudits Fatman Shaw has received in these games, despite being part of one of the most shambolic defences I've ever seen. His agent must have been busy over the summer cozying up to journalists I reckon

Probably because they know what Shaw can offer. He hasn't come from nowhere and randomly been picked. He's got back into the United team and played pretty well and got a call up. I think Southgate won't be the type to just select people on who they play for. He correctly left him out of the world cup because of playing time and now that's changed his thoughts have changed.
