Mate I think you and me hated that banner more than anyone else here. It really did sum them up perfectly. Smug, arrogant despicable human beings aided and abetted by a club riddled from top to bottom with the same ilk.

The reason why it was so despicable is because they knew that barring a miracle they and us thought would never happen, it would have been turning over for probably 100 years. Unfortunately for them we got that miracle.
Sorry to be intrusive but please can I be included this group - the overwhelming joy I was filled with when Mancini ripped that banner down...........

Any other club (probably barring Liverpool) would look back on that banner with huge embarrassment - still don't think they get it....

You can. I have not seen any other club put up such a vile banner with the approval of the club to rub their nearest rivals noses in the dirt. Mancini will always be loved here because he understood how much we hated it and vowed to rip it down and he did. Brave words at the time in spite of the investment as we hadn't won anything for 35 years and many believed we were cursed never to again.

the real genius of the banner was the fact it had a zero before the 35 ( ie 035) on the assumption our years without winning anything would go into the hundreds!!!

I vaguely remember there was a campaign from the rolling banner period I think it may have been year 23 when they were asking fans to send in pics with the number 23 shown on it such as a bus or billboard etc. Not sure if it was the club, mutv or a rag fanzine who was running it.

Anyone else remember this or was it a nightmare I had?

Unless I had the same nightmare as you, I can assure you that you're bang on with that and it was their official website promoting it. I think it was 28 years, not 23, and I clearly remember those 2 whoppers Kirk and Tyrone out of Corrie with their mugs plastered on their website holding up cards with the number of years since we last won a trophy on them.

This club sponsored shit about our trophy drought went on for years over there as @Gary James pointed out on one of his Twitter posts the other week. I've no issue with the banner itself as that's just banter plus I always found it amusing how they put so much time and effort into taking the piss out of us, while at the same time claiming they didn't care about 'ikkle Citeh. No, it was their laughable double standards which came racing to the surface with all the wailing and gnashing of teeth that accompanied the unveiling of the Tevez poster - from both club and fans alike - that I'm calling the fuckers out on. Their club aided and abetted a campaign that lasted for fucking years, yet as soon as our club does one single thing in return the sad bastards can't take it and start lobbing that stupid fucking "small-time" phrase around.
