I remember posting at the start of last season that yourselves and the rags were about to go in vastly differing directions....
There were a few sceptics, as there always is, especially after Peps first season....but for me, the writing was on the wall... and no, this isn't a "I told you so post", it's a "lets all rejoice in the demise of the vermin" post.
Maureen was found out in the premier league second time round at a Chelsea... but this just typifies the rags..... let's get a marquee signing as a manager in....marquee midfielder in Pogba, great for merchandising etc etc, and yes it is.... but was is also amazing for merchandising is success.
There is a very fair argument that Pep is a marquee signing as a manager, too fuckin right he is.... he is, and has been the best in the business for close to a decade... but there the similarity ends....
Maureen bought experienced (arguably old) players, well known "marquee" players.... Pogba, Sanchez, Lukaku, Matic.... the latter 3 certainly in the top echelons of Premier league fame in recent years....
Pep bought Sane, Jesus, (I'd never heard noticed them prior to joining City) before getting in the queue for the fire sale at Monaco with Mendy & Silva.
He was then butchered for buying Ederson, Walker and Stones at such expense......"crazy money to pay for a defence" the media all said....was it really?
That crazy money not only brought in younger players, replacing the evergreen Zabaletta etc but they were all players who "fit" the way Pep wanted to play......and history will back this up...as the centurions were formed.......
Now back to the swamp....
So in the last 2 seasons, Maureen has spent £140m on defensive players (I include Matic in this).... but still complains he hasn't got the right players.....
Not a million mile short of Peps spending.....
But here is where it is different.......Maureen has shelled out £95m on Pogba £75m on Lukaku....and arguably £40m (Mickey Terry's fee) on Sanchez, as well as ludicrous wages.....
3 players, 3 "marquee signings", with no fuckin idea how they gel together in a system......the signings are business led, brand led... which some may say are good.....
But here is what might will happen if Maureen stays.... they will not qualify for the Champs
League, not with the apparent resurgence of Chelsea and Arsenal... so to attract the "marquee" signings....they will have to pay even more over the odds, as players want champs league (I'd settle for my team in the championship haha).
Then there is the development of the youngsters....
Luke Shaw, who for 18 months he has slagged off....and now has a 5 yr contract ..eh?
Jesse Lindgard...who is 26 in December....arguably a youngster compared to his team mates admittedly
And Marcus the wonderkid....who played in 50 games last year...clearly irrelevant that a lot of them were for five or ten mins.
They are deluded, and the more crap and excuses they spout, the better it is....they are desperate, and if they listened to themselves, they'd know it..but they don't, they don't see it.
They are bleeding... they are stagnant, their football is dire to watch....its over, until a massive overhaul happens....
Whereas Pep......well, as we know, that's another story altogether.....enjoy these wondrous times Blues
