United thread 2019/20

In 2016 (Pellegrini’s last season) we finished level on points with United, and only pipped them to the last CL spot on goal difference. Obviously we were being better run behind the scenes, but you could argue that we were starting from not dissimilar positions (outgoing managers, ageing squads etc). That summer they appointed Mourinho, and signed Pogba, Lukaku, Mkhitaryan, Ibrahimovic and Bailly, which, on paper at least, looked like a very good window got them. I bet they can scarcely believe just how far behind us they are three years on. The gulf between the two teams is huge now. It’s incredible just how much Woodward has fucked things up, and hilarious that his job is seemingly under no threat from their owners.
It’s impossible to completely discount the possibility that he’s doing it on purpose.

It's now been a year since they hired a very expensive consulting firm to work out who should be their director of football.

This is brilliant. Solksjaer is taking them down a completely different direction again to the other recently failed managers. Yet it’s another blind alley based on a misty eyed vision that he can recreate the 1990s this time by overspending on mediocre British players. Of course it is doomed to fail and at the end, which unfortunately won’t be too long away, they’ll be even further from where they need to be and with a load of overpaid ruined flops on long term contracts.
