That's your heart talking not your head. And yet they were runners up and beat us last season. Then they added Sancho, Varane and Ronaldo to that. The problem is its all ad-hoc and not thought through and they've gone from playing counter-attacking football which worked quite well for them last season (against the better sides) to some unknown style of play which basically seems to revolve around feeding Ronaldo.

Can a new coach get something more out of this squad? The mystery for me is the collapse in form of Shaw and Maguire. They are both decent players imo who have as you said had nightmares this season. Normally a players lack of form can be explained. Injury, unsettled, age etc. But Maguire and Shaw have gone from being strong performers to complete rubbish and its hard to understand why that would be.

So using your head who are the great players at the swamp? Which players do you look over to Trafford and think I wish we had him? I know I wouldn't want any of the back 4 or midfield. Would you honestly take Shaw or Maguire even on a free transfer, I wouldn't, don't think Liverpool or Chelsea would either.

I hate to rush to the defence of Scudamore but plenty of people seem to focus on the bits they want in that quote and conspicuously ignore the bits that don’t suit. My reading of it was that united are good for the PL commercially (which they indisputably were, and to a lesser extent, are) but they are running a competition and that the former shouldn’t therefore supersede the latter. Are you suggesting that in stating that united were commercially good for the PL Scudamore was saying something that was untrue? It seems he was stating something that was correct to me, and something, given his role, he was entitled to have a view on.

In any event, it’s now an anachronistic quote that no longer has any meaningful probative value.

Are you still going to be deploying it in another seven years when united still haven’t won the league as evidence of bias in favour of united?

Not saying they don’t get favourable decisions or there isn’t bias in their favour, but that quote, or rather your interpretation of it, has manifestly not produced a corollary of success for united. They have palpably declined as a force since it was uttered.

imo, and fwiw, its a ineffective tool to advance your argument and there are better means for you to do so.

I see you`ve swallowed your thesaurus again.

8-)

They are a top class coach and a top class CM player from a serious challenger.

That's what made their decision to keep Little Ole utterly bizarre.

Enjoy this present situation because it will change and they will come back.
They are a top class coach a back four, a new midfield and a functional strike force that is willing to put in the graft, away from a putting in a challenge.

They have been living with debts for the past +10 years but it didn't affect their spending at all.

They still able to break transfer records and wage bills.

Unfortunately, they still get whoever they want ( maybe Zidane is the exception )
They'll never be allowed to go under, even in their darkest hour, money appeared from nowhere. I certainly think they are not in a position of years gone by when they could cherry pick.

Exactly. Keep hearing pundits and United fans on the radio say they have a brilliant squad. Their defence (and captain) is crap. Midfield is one of the worst in the premier league and their two strikers are 34 & 36. United fans who I know don’t rate Rashford or Martial. No doubt Greenwood is a big prospect but he needs coaching properly and probably needs to play through the middle to really kick on. Sancho good young player but remains to be seen as to how good he is.

There is only so much footballing governance (PiGMOL/FA/PL/UEFA) can do to help without making it obvious that they are being treated differently to other teams on occasions and that penny is starting to drop with them now. But given the gushing praise from BT after last nights latest false dawn it's going to take a very long time for the media to realise that they are no longer the cash cow they once were.
