I would say best part of a decade and at least double that sort of money.

The only half-decent players that would go there will be those entering the ends of their careers looking for a final big pay off - which is exactly what is happening now. Because despite the razzamataz and the whole'Hollywood/Tinsel Town' thing with them they have always been a mid-table side. The creation of the Premier league was a stroke of unbeleivably good fortune for them because the Pisscan was almost certainly out on his arse with the results they were getting. I remember their banners stating they wanted the despot out.
But they got incredibly lucky with the millions and millions Sky and the Prem gave them, and together with a fawning media and sycophantic officials turning a blind eye to their brutality and their cheating, they prospered.

But now the glitter is wearing off. The varnish is fading and their followers are starting to experience a bit of reality for the first time - scrapping for points with the rest of us, not having Howard Webb and his cronies give it to you on a silver platter. And THAT is what is causing all the unrest there, having to cope with the ups and downs of football in the real world...they are not used to it.
