Has anyone ever loaned someone out to a better team so they can play in the CL before?

I remember when we sent Adebayor on loan to Real but I think they were short on strikers at the time due to injuries? Weird time

Could have just said ‘I can’t be arsed playing in the Champions League or winning titles so I’ve left Ajax to come here and make a wedge for a few years till they send me back on loan’
