The problems at Man U are well documented and have been apparent for a couple of years now, so I’m wondering having appointed ETH what their rebuilding strategy is. I can’t discern one other than what seems to me short termism and questionable player acquisitions. Am I missing something?

I thought they might follow our strategy at Arsenal by clearing out all the dross and rebuilding around youth and sensible acquisitions but I suspect they don’t have anyone with a football brain at board level. Might they also be strapped for cash?

Who knows? But long may this shambles last. A decade of two of humility might be good for their collective soul, assuming of course it hasn’t already been pledged to the devil.
The problem at united is that what everyone knows they need to do conflicts with what they absolutely can't do.

From a football point of view, they need to clear out the dross and give Ten Bob a few seasons - 3 as a minimum - to build a side. During that time, they will almost certainly need to sacrifice European football, certainly CL. Let's call that Plan A.

But sacrificing CL for a few seasons could be seismic for them. It will eat into their revenue significantly and reduce their appeal to top quality players. They've been lucky so far as they haven't spent two consecutive seasons without CL football but if they don't secure CL for next season, sponsorships get reduced and banking covenants that might require them to repay debt on demand could potentially kick in. So their available cash will be reduced significantly.

So their "strategy" (if you can call it that) has to be a series of short term fixes, hence the buying of older, big name players who they feel can give them a short term boost. Let's call that Plan B. If that doesn't work then they may as well go to Plan A but the likelihood is that they'll get rid of Ten Bob and try Plan B with someone else.

Tell you what will really show the Glazers….. a mass walkout (well a few hundred people) during a game after you have bought a ticket, bought a few pints and pies, and spent some money on some new stuff in the club shop. That will really show them. Also, use the Liverpool game so they have good excuse for leaving when they are inevitably 6-0 down after 20 minutes

but if they don't secure CL for next season,
Oh, they will. We saw against Brighton the help they are getting. Yes, they lost that game, but realistically they should have been down to 10 men and Brighton should have had a penalty, so it could and should have been much worse.

By hook or by crook the powers-that-be WILL ensure CL for the vermin.

They probably make more money per minute from E-Commerce than the swamp generates in matchday sales. Their fanbase is beyond idiotic if they believe stadium goers are what really feeds the glazers.

So they rob Peter to pay Paul then they have to rob Paul to pay back Peter.. :)

Yeah, I'm not buying this. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, Manchester City. That's your top 5.

Very Good to Excellent squads, stable management, world class management, solid investment and very good stability.

No chance this season.

They didn't ensure them CL football last season fella, why should this season be any different. Even the media are laying into them like never before.
I see what ur saying but even with the so called 'help' they got v Brighton they still lost the game. The powers that be may well try to help but United are very beatable and legal goals are hard to chalk off.

Your manager worked with Pep.
You have bought Jesus and Zinchenko who will give their all every minute they spend on the pitch.
Your club have managed to acquire a couple of diamonds in them.
Hopefully you can achieve 2nd spot.

I agree with all that. But I’m a City fan. Just disagreed with the Blue that thought Jack Hacket sounded like a scouser..
