I don't understand why the rags spend so much money on below-average signings. Their football is not exactly pretty, nor is it tactically difficult, because it's basic pub-style hoofball. They should accept that their days in the sun ended many years ago and just live with the fact that it's all cyclical: after us it'll be someone else, Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea, whoever. Nobody stays at the top of the tree for ever. Just think, millions of years ago Preston North End were footballing giants, so too were Blackpool. Unfashionable names nowadays, but in their day they were the big boys. They might be again some day, nobody knows.
But due to the media in this country blowing smoke up their arses the rags seem to think they are still a big attraction. They're not. They are buying mid-table fodder that no other club is or was interested in signing, and they are paying obscene amounts for the privilege, too.
I don't believe for one second that the Glazers had any intention to sell: their asking price is taking the piss. They knew no one would entertain that sort of money, so once again it's the smoke and mirrors routine from them. But still everything they do is lauded as some incredible achievement by our media. Every single utterance from Ten Bob is greeted with such sycophancy you'd think the man was God: Simon Stone and the rest of them are his disciples, and it is the media's responsibility to spread the word of the Lord.
The prophets and the soothsayers will all proclaim that his next miracle will be to raise Lazarus from the dead - but to the rest of us he's just signed fucking Jonny Evans.
