From the 4th round of the 2018-19 FA Cup until the 6th round of the following year the filth had actually been drawn Away on every occasion - Arsenal, Chelsea, Wolves, then Wolves again, Tranmere, Derby and Norwich (last one behind closed doors). There was a home replay in there, but that was 7 successive times their ball came out Away. 2 penalties awarded for. 0 against. 1 opposition sending off, no sendings-off for them. All very off-narrative, this, but I’ve only found this out because I was looking for evidence to support my belief that they always get a home draw. Soz.
But…. since round 3 of 2020-21, they’ve been in an FA Cup draw on 10 occasions. 9 (NINE) times they’ve come out at home. The only non-PL team they’ve drawn in this time was Boro, who knocked them out on penalties. The only away draw in this time was when they had to go to Leicester in the 6th round of lockdown season. Leicester went on to win the Cup. During this time they’ve been awarded 3 penalties (0 conceded, obvs), 3 opposition sendings-off (2 simultaneously against Fulham, when they were losing, scoring the ensuing penalty to equalise, and winning late on), and 0 sendings-off for them.
Over the same period i.e. from 2018-19 until now, in the Carabao Cup draws have also heavily favoured United. Leaving aside the 2020-21 season, where all games except the final were behind closed doors (and in which United had 3 successive away draws, the latter against Everton played before a miserable 2,000 crowd, and a 1-leg semi final at home with no crowd at all to watch the Mighty Blues beat them again), and including last night’s draw, United have been drawn out of the bag nine times - EIGHT times at home.
Draw your own conclusions. Them’s the facts.
