It was the 2006-7 season. We had a run of 3 wins going into new year, the third of which was Everton 2-1 at home on New Year's Day. We did score at home in two rounds of the cup, but those against Everton were the last of the season in the PL at home. That season was agony at home and is impossible to forget. At the end of the season it seemed certain that Big Sam was coming to City but he went to Newcastle and we eventually got Sven and Thaksin! And there begins a completely different story....

That upgrading to a CL place for winning Europa needs to be reviewed.

Was it Atalanta who qualified this year and were no great shakes.

Atalanta finished 4th in Serie A so qualified regardless and won the Europa League. Bologna finished 5th and qualified due to Italy getting an extra place. Not sure how they did not get six places with Atalanta winning the Europa League and finishing 4th. Maybe that only happens if the winner of The Europa League is so shit they can’t finish in the top 5.
 
The CL place will no doubt be taken away if we end up in it next season. Tbh since the 3rd place CL dropouts no longer go into it, a PL should be winning it each season given the financial advantages they have. The Rags opponents in the semi final were a team made up of free transfers, v a Billion Pound rag squad
