Did anyone else pick up on what Scruffy Jim said about selling up to the Qataris…

It struck me as a veiled warning to the FA and probably the fanbase too.

Probably the completely wrong thread but channel surfing on Saturday morning, caught a few minutes of the Big Match from 1984, Clive Wilson was mint! It was Huddersfield Vs City and they had a pre match or pre season ritual of raising a toast to the Queen from a flagon or tankard. Centre of the picture was ol' pube head himself, suspect him 'n slippy Jim have the same sized egos.


The scruffy one came across as delusional and calling out his own players, just wow!

Not a PR success in any way shape or form.

Depends on how much money they will get selling all of the wharfside land to developers. A new stadium and entertainment complex with bars and stuff, will bring in external interest.

The government are saying they want 4,000 new homes in the area. So the price of the land will increase. Especially with all of the transport links signed off by Burnham and co. There's money to be made and the bigger picture that Scruffy Jim has come into this to make money, instead of creating some sort of life achievement.

According to Deloitte, revenues in 2023/24 were City (€837m) and Utd (€770m), so despite their much lower performance revenue (PL prize money, CL prize money etc) they must still be pulling in commercial revenue that is comparative to ours.

With those kinda numbers,there's absoloutely no excuse not to build it. I'm sure there were tens of thousands of disappointed United fans who couldn't get a ticket to attend the Ipswich game....this is just meeting that huge demand.

Reminded me of that 'bring ronaldo home' campaign where they got fans to donate and got a free shirt or summat bollox...........
BringRonaldoHome.Org attempt to use ‘crowd sourcing as a means to fund a deal for Ronaldo. Sounds like a good idea but scratch the surface and it’s obvious this is nothing more than a means to making some money for the people behind it rather than re-signing the prodigal son.

The idea is you pledge ten pounds on the site towards Bringing Ronaldo Home and should he sign then the money is used as a downpayment for a United shirt, you then send another £45 and you’ll get the shirt. The deposit money is held until he signs for United or a deal with someone else so the fans donations will not be used towards a transfer fee. The Bring Ronaldo Home site has benefited from a lot of positive media coverage with papers such as the Mail noting:
United supporters have created a website where fans can help raise funds to bring back their old favourite, who has a £100million buyout clause, from Real Madrid.

The ‘BringRonaldoHome’ movement has already received thousands of pledges to buy a United shirt with Ronaldo on it – however it needs 10 million to donate a tenner for this target to be reached.

The supporters consortium are urging fans to throw £10 into a hat in order to raise funds to pay for Ronaldo, with £100million their ambitious target.

The Bring Ronaldo Home site states:

We have been inspired by the loyalty and dedication of Manchester United fans. To be a ‘true’ fan requires the ‘living’ experience of football. It is not about being a mere spectator — it is about being a participant. We wanted to give fans an opportunity to be involved in making history to secure their club’s future.

Wonder what happened to all that money raised ?

What you are forgetting is that before a spade hits the ground the rags will have to pay a huge wedge to the contractors.
This stadium naming rights and extra seat revenue is only after it's built.
How will they afford circa 100 million interest repayments for 3 years and then 140 mill for the last 2 ?

All the while the swamp is crumbling and they can't afford to fix a roof etc if they are moving out.
They can't afford decent players to get the revenue from the Champs League.
The debt they already have, as you have mentioned, needs refinancing.
All this before the new swamp is opened.
Basically we are asked to believe they can sustain a total debt of 3 billion increasing in year 4 to 5 billion without any increased revenue.
 
The arrogance of that club is astounding 100k stadium it will take 5-10 years before they win the league going off the state of the team. Least it will be the best ground in the championship when they get relegated.

If they sell to the Qataris then they wont need any funding in the first place will they ? When he says "we" , is he expecting the Glazers to jump ship when an even bigger cash cow is in the making ?
The united propaganda machine is in full flow.

I did a year at the office just over Blackfriars Bridge in London...back in I think 2009..ish. I had just returned from 12 months in Baku working on some glass stumps for Shephard Robson. I spent most of my time at Big Norms specification writing, visiting the free on site cafe (open 24hours) and generally waking up young Chinese interns who were quite prepared to die at their posts.
 
Probably outcomes

1. That stadium will not be built in the next five years, probably not even the next ten
2. It'll cost at least twice what they are saying
3. It will look nothing like that and be a downgraded design
4. It's an FFP dodge and they'll claim exaggerated consultancy/architectural/feasibility studies costs like £50 million Liverpool did with the fake Stanley Park development that never happened.
5. All of the above
