So 100 people are asked should the government spend 200 million to help the rags & everyone says yes ...okay...

Yeah sure, if you completely rewrite what I said to mean something different you might get a different response, who fucking knew!

It goes back to my original comment about how stupid some posters are that they can't see the good of £2Bn private investment in greater manchester, thousands of permanent jobs created and 2500 new homes, simply because it's got a Manchester United logo attached to it. There's fair complaints that MCFC haven't had the full cooperation of MCC to get more trams, but that's not connected to United's project and never has been. It's not a zero sum game.

Utd colleague claims to be an ITK and says it’s a done deal and they’ll be in a new stadium by the 28/29 season.

Couldn’t resist bursting his bubble..
Summer 2025 decision to build new stadium.
Designs of new stadium and local area drawn up. Will also have to plan, design and gain approval for a new freight terminal with rail and road links in somewhere like Wigan or more likely Leigh as that would suit Andy ‘where’s the camera?’ Burnham. All plans would have to go to public consultation and nimby protests because a freight hub is pretty ugly. That’s likely take 2 years minimum.

Then they’ll be political bickering about who’s paying for what. With that decided the construction job for the new freight link has to go out to tender and the winning bid has to come up with a schedule of works for local approval. Add on another 2 years.

Then you’ve got to build the new freight link because you can’t start working on the new stadium build until the existing hub has been moved. New roads to be built, rail tracks and signalling infrastructure, bridges etc.
New rail builds are a lengthy process and prone to extensive project overruns. But let’s be kind and say 3 years.

Then you’ve need to transition to the new freight site and clear the old one. Another year.

Finally, they’ll break ground in the new build. At least 2 years.

So in for the 35/36 season. By which point costs will have doubled from when Spurs dropped £2bn on their build. And scruffy Jim, the walking cadaver, will be well into his 80s.

Or faced with all that, maybe they’ll just tart up the Stretford End after all.
I am sure there are enough tarts there already

But why would most people from around the country really give a toss what happens in Manchester area??

I don't think they do to be honest. What they do give a toss about is where and why our government invests hundreds of millions, hence the post on this thread about a lack on investment on Tyneside. Investment in "the North" is still woefully lacking compared to the South East.

Last time I checked attracting £2Bn of investment and creating 1000s of jobs goes down pretty well with the voters.
And you believe that figure ?
HS2 will also create 1000's of jobs as will the Northern Powerhouse. Oh hang on......
They can't even afford to electrify the Liverpool- Manchester -Leeds train line.

How are these jobs going to be created. The houses will be built by brickies and builders that are already working.
Hotels ? Nevilles isn't doing so good.
Shops, hmmm maybe a few hundred on minimum wage but as there is already a huge Tescos, White City Retail Park, Stretford Precinct and the Trafford Centre..............
The local area will lose jobs when the freight depot is moved.

It's a total bull shit exercise by politicians and a greedy tax dodger who has already lied to the Welsh Government.

I agree lack of investment in the North is well below what it should be but I was just asking why the poster thought that if a 100 people from all over the UK the vast majority would support the £200m investment around Trafford area..
Personally I wouldn't think any of them gave a toss unless they live in the North West...I know if it was £200m to fund London area I wouldn't be arsed as it doesn't affect me except for funding should be spread out more, rather than just the South benefitting.

but surely it does affect you? Look at the money wasted on HS2 and the billions about to be spent at Heathrow, I think the money from both would have been/would be better spent regionally?

No problem with much of what you say but.....

United will develop aand construct a new stadium for next to nothing by utilising all the investment in the surrounding area including all the set up or start up building costs.... I can just about stomach that but it is when money (which should be ringfenced) that should have been used for building starts to be included on their books and indirectly subsidising their debts and used to splurge on new signing (which is an inevitability) is where it crosses the line for me. It will happen.
