Their plan is to sell the club and their only hope is to show it’s still relevant. Burnham and Coe (and Norman Foster) are being played if they think the current owners are serious about all this. There’s never been a need for a 100k club stadium in this country, well not since it was cheap to get in, so why the talk now when the new club model (all clubs) is to increase the number of premium tickets? There’s absolutely NO PROFIT in filling a stadium with cheap seats.

Good luck in finding an investor thinking £500M (or whatever the additional cost is) to add on 25k cheap seats is a good deal.

A colleague of mine was at a dinner with JFE who said very much the same after a couple of drinks

I agree it is a stunt to increase the value of the club. That’s why they are also cutting costs. But they must have a big investor lined up. They could have a mixture of cheap and premium seats. Barca have the same model but rarely fill their stadium to capacity.

100%. Like resi towers, the higher up you go, the more expensive it is to build. Unlike real estate, stadium tickets are cheaper the higher you go. If it ever goes ahead, I can see it being a scaled down version without the circus tent and spires.
