As much as I’ve enjoyed reading the last 15 pages or so, I’m a little disappointed with the lack of respect.

This is going to be very interesting. If you're the PL at what point do you transfer effort from trying to breath life back into one of your 'key brands' and stop favouring them in preference to promoting other brands better? There's obviously a generational lag with these things but I assume they have all manner of data that indicates where/when in terms of increasing tv rights revenues the tipping point comes and they should stop flogging a dead horse and market themselves differently. But then I think of the state of the PL leadership over the APT and 115 and you wonder if they've actually got much of a clue? Plus the PL/it's members/Sky have never known anything different since their inception so there's a lot of muscle memory to overcome.

Despite that surely at some point the rags become a drag on the brand rather than a benefit and a marketing reset is considered necessary? At the point when that happens, other forms of media follow suit and the rags have the level of treatment that their capabilities deserve. It did occur to me they simply pivot to milking the drama of their demise but whilst that might work domestically not sure it plays out as well internationally.

Despite how successful and stable we are it's much more likely the dippers will benefit from any proper abandonment of the rags (maybe their pursuit of Wirtz indicates their confidence on this?). With the likelihood of more American owners it feels like, even if we overcome the 115, a marketing reset with us in a more central role is unlikely but who knows?

Either way the rags are finally beginning to get what their behaviour has for a long time deserved, lets hope it continues that way.
