They are on an upward trend imo. Don't think they win a title under Amorim but they can finish top 4-6 this season and go deep in the cups again from next season. Think once Amorim has another summer under his belt they could be regular top 4-6 finishers once more, which isn't exactly what they want but it's on the way to their ideal destination.

Since those comments Ratcliffe made about giving Amorim three years no matter how much people might want him sacked, in all competitions they've P11 W5 D4 L2. In that time they've gone away to Liverpool (W), Spurs (D), Palace (W), and Villa (L). Things could be improved but Amorim has definitely stopped the rot and steadied the ship for the time being.

Lammens
De Ligt Maguire Shaw
Diallo [new CM] Fernandes Dalot
Cunha Mbeumo Mount

There is something in that system. Casemiro and Ugarte are nowhere near mobile enough to do the job Amorim wants, which is why they're still a work in progress, and Mount can't really be trusted to stay fit for more than 2-3 months at a time. But they are building a decent squad with decent options from the bench. No threat to us yet, but it's improving.
Probably get a like off @Falcao

You're getting pelters obviously, but for what its worth I agree with you to a point.

In fairness to Amorin he's stuck to his guns, MBuemo and Cunha were signings which improved them, and Ratboy2, despite his whinging, is not a bad player. They're improving, they're starting to understand the system Amorin wants, however where we disagree is how close they are to being a team capable of sustained challenge for top 4. I reckon 3-4 years at best.

The defence is still poor, midfield is nowhere near where they need to be, both issues which wont be fixed in 1 or 2 windows, and they still don't have a keeper worthy of the name
Name me one player that has improved at the swamp that they have bought? Mbuemo and Cunha will also be bang average come next season, if their not already.

I’m negative as anyone and always worst case scenario when it comes to thinking the rags will be back…

But my god, if that’s an upward trend long May it continue. They’re absolutely fucking shit and will be lucky to finish top half!
If including away at Villa as a difficult away game.
They only lost at Villa once in the last 28 visits before yesterday. Upwards trend my Arse.
Big Yaya Wilko needs to post in the save Ruben thread.

Is this right?
They are shit still.
But they have improved on last season.
And they are on TV constantly, including Boxing Day, which is the only PL match.
How does that work then?

I think if you take in the full range of opinions I've expressed about Pep over the last 6-12 months, you'll get a clearer picture. I'm not fully #PepOut, but I have questioned - after some bad results this season which have reflected a lot of problems from last season - whether he's the man to get us back to the top. But I've also said, on many occasions, that I'm happy for Pep to continue as our manager because he's earned that right. I've also said numerous times that I think he'll win us the league again at the end of the 26/27 season before bowing out and that I'd be gutted if he left now or at the end of the 25/26 season. I'm doubtful over whether keeping him beyond his current contract would be the best thing for City long-term, but I wouldn't say I'm 100% of the opinion that "Pep needs to go". In a weak moment after the Leverkusen game, or after the Brighton and Spurs games this season, I might have made some off-hand comment wondering whether Pep is currently in his late 2000s Wenger phase, but I'm still broadly on board with him staying and would be sad if this season did end up being his last.

At the same time, Amorim has been at United for about 12 months now and I think it's fair enough to point out that they are currently in a better position than they were when Ten Hag left. They were 14th in the league when Amorim was appointed and they're currently 7th. I don't know if Amorim is "good". I've said in the post you've quoted that I don't think he'll be the man to win them a Premier League title because they're currently too far behind City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea (and arguably Villa). But I think it's beginning to show that the more influence Amorim has on the squad, the better football they seem to be playing. They're currently 3rd in the xG table, which tends to show itself in the real table as the season carries on, and I wouldn't be surprised if they finished between 4th-6th with the way this season is shaping up. That's not to say they're "back" or that they've "turned a corner", they're simply showing improvement on the last days of Ten Hag and the early days of Amorim. That doesn't mean I think he's a better manager than Pep - I'm just wondering if United are at the beginning of a good cycle with a new manager while City might (might!) be reaching the end of a good cycle with the guy who's been in charge for 9-10 years.
There has never been a top flight manager with a better record than Pep
and it's merely 'a good cycle!'
Oh please.

RAG!

You're correct and I hope it continues, but Amorin does seem a little different than his (many) predecessors. For one thing he's not constantly banging on about "the united way" and other such entitled shit. We will see, but they have made progress from last season, though nowhere near as much as the media and their fans would have you believe

Yeah in fairness I've not felt the need to dislike him anywhere near as much as any of their last few gobshights.

We are in a good cycle with Pep. The cycle has lasted 8-9 years, but it is still a cycle all the same.

And, not that I need to justify myself, but I've been a blue since the Gillingham game, a season ticket holder since 2003, and a member of this forum for 16 years (on and off). I've had this "new" account for longer than you've had yours ffs.

As I said before, posting anything vaguely reasonable about United sure does get people wound up.

they spent 200 million+ on forward line alone i should hope they have improved

Harry Kane (twice) and David Beckham, both got sent out on loan, the loan system isn't a punishment, it helps develop players who are not ready for top flight football, whilst improving lower league clubs. It has been used in English Football by every single club and manager! Why do you think its so bad, It's a second chance for players to find their feet and stay in the game.
I'm not saying it's so bad, the loan system can be beneficial now and again, but the fact is that a lot of young players sent out on loan either don't want to come back to the club who's loaned them out, or come back to that club and are quickly moved on again, usually on another loan ... they end up never settling anywhere ..... City have loaned out loads of players in years gone by, and most of them have either vanished into the football wilderness, or have had to settle for lower league, or non league clubs ....... luckily for Morgan Rogers, Villa saw his worth at Middlesboro and put in an 8m bid for him, and look what a player they've got now !!!

I'm not against loans, i just don't see why City couldn't have given him chances in their own excellent academy sides ( instead of loaning him out), where they could have nurtured him, and helped him progress into their first team squad .... if City liked what they saw of him at West Brom enough to bring him here in the first place, as appears to be the case, THEY MUST have already been aware of the potential he had, whether the player himself doubted his own abilities at that point or not !!!

But anyway, it's time to move on from this now ....

After a stunning 4-4 home draw against a decent Bournmouth side and outplaying the Champions elect, United go into the New year full of Christmas cheer.
On the edge of the Title race, despite a keeper with one arm, a defence which has yet to concede 5, or keep a clean sheet there is room for optimism, or improvement.
Up front they may add a Striker, although it seems they prefer to play without one, at least for the last 5 years.
The Coach cancelled Europe so he could spend more time on the training pitch, and the new owner happy with his multiple redundancies, has gone back to Ineos, to liquidise a few more companies.
Happy Xmas Amorin, you dreamaker
